id always heard great stuff about a chunk of the other canon material that now became legends. my only exposure was SOTE. hear the thrawn books were great. sidenote: SOTE had the goat soundtrack. the main theme and “echo base” are honestly my favorite SW music.
It's funny because there are a lot of people who swear by Racer. Like, there are people that absolutely adore that game.
I'm gonna have to figure out a way to play the N64 SotE game - I don't remember it being a frustrating experience. I do remember a few of the areas were really hard and challenging, but in a fun way.
Oh man I love Lucas Arts and all the amazing PC games (Monkey Island series, The Dig, Outlaws, Full Throttle, Afterlife) and of course Star Wars: Dark Forces, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and Tie Fighter. My very first N64 game came with Racer and I loved that game too.
I used to play the two outrider missions over and over again just shooting down stuff. The Hoth mission was legendary too. Taking down an AT-AT was so satisfying.
Full Throttle! The Dig!!! I was not prepared for such an onslaught of nostalgia - and I'm posting in a thread about an Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show!
Have you played it in the last decade or two? My rigorous research (wikipedia) tells me the game’s mixed reception focused on the sloppy mechanics and poorly realized variety of styles, which is what i came away with playing it in 2020. The magic of star wars is there, and the game is duly ambitious, but none of it is particularly well executed.
Shadows of the empire is a very fun game. Put that wompa stompa cheat code in and go wild. Episode 1 racer is also a very fun game. Maybe my favorite racing game.
70% was a third person shooter and the rest was vehicle levels (which sucked imo). the game lead with the vehicle levels at the beginning which i think hurt its accessibility. tbh i loved the third person shooting back then. and most impressively they had a super fun jetpack mechanic that was used for platforming. great game at the time.
I played almost every Star Wars game on PS1/PS2. The pod racer games were sick. Star Fighter and Jedi Star Fighter were great. Jedi Power Battles was a great side scroller. The official Phantom Menace game is laughably bad lol.
First Lucasarts game I ever remember playing was Super Star Wars on SNES. Underrated in terms of Star Wars games. Fun platformer with some great rail shooter levels sprinkled in. I'd love to see the entire Super Star Wars trilogy of Lucasarts sidescrolling platformers to get a re-release on Switch.
Shadows Of The Empire is a classic. The novel is amazing. I’m happy to see Dash is canon since he was mentioned in the Solo book (I don’t remember which). SOTE did make me terrified of IG-88. That was probably my first true panic attack.
I have no recollection of the vehicle levels - I only remember the game as a third person shooter, and I loved the mechanics.
