I did let myself get a little more excited for this show. But I think between Clone Wars and Rebels I’ve been able to adjust most expectations accordingly.
So far this has been... fine. My favorite moments are those that reflect on Obi-Wan's mindset, trauma and guilt post-Episode III. I've always had a soft spot for Ewan in the Prequels so in that sense, I'm really enjoying spending time with him, but the rest leaves a little to be desired. There isn't really anything that makes me go "I can't wait to watch the next episode!". Just a small nitpick about the visual aspect, but it bothers me how despite the budget behind the show, the world still feels small. I'm not a fan of the shaky camera work in a couple scenes either. I don't remember if it was a thing in Star Wars movies before, but in here it makes me feel like I'm watching a cheap network TV series.
I feel like the tomb sequence would have been way more effective if it had been Jedi we actually knew. Unless they are some deep cut characters that I didn’t know of? But the whole saving the youngling for last felt like a lack of payoff for the moment. It felt like if they didn’t want to have them all be people we had known, they would use them to bring Ben to someone we did know last. Or at least someone Ben had known personally. A bunch of no names leading to a generic youngling just left me going, “okay… that’s it?” Like, the final reveal is meant to be like, “yes even children!” But we already knew the kids were slaughtered, Ben knows this already, too. This isn’t a new development or revelation. I do wonder why they’re preserving them… perhaps cloning purposes? I liked the Ben fight sequence and holding back all the water. Leia is still good. overall, my main response is that this is fine.
I do not come to this website for Yaddle slander. Also, this episode was fine. I will reiterate my stance that this should have been a movie like Rogue One or Solo.
I really wanted to love this show but this was another lukewarm episode for me. Not giving me much hope for the last two. This whole thing feels fairly lazy/disjointed to me outside of maybe episode 1, and a lot of these characters just aren't fun to watch. Vader was way too tame in his scene too. I know bacta falshbacks kinda turned into a meme due to BOBF overusing it but this could've been used to flesh things out better with a scene of Obi and Anakin infiltrating a base during the clone wars or something like that to mirror the current situation, idk I'm not a tv writer. For some positives the hallway scene with the glass break was fun and tense and I liked the visuals in the torture room when Obi-wan kills the two storm troopers in the dark.
Yea, I know feel certain in saying that we won’t be any clone wars flashbacks. I think this episode was the ideal place for it and we just got shot from last week.
Do not read this if you don’t want a spoiler leaks say episode 5 we’re getting a flashback and Hayden
