I'll admit I had no clue Leia was going to be in this. During her reveal I thought they were showing the new Queen of Naboo for a second.
Overall, decent start. The first episode was pretty bleak (in a good way). I was a little unsure of the kidnapping plot line, but the actor they got for young Leia won me over. Her sassing Obi-wan was great. Though the woods chase scene was pretty rough. It kind of gave me Superbad “he’s the fastest kid alive vibes”. On the flip side, the rooftop shootout was fun. I enjoyed Kumail too. And Ewan is crushing it. I’m not all that captivated by Reva just yet, but there’s still time. Also lol at Flea being in this.
I have to admit, I almost had to turn it off after the first couple of minutes. Obviously it’s just terrible timing but it was very tough to watch that within the context of this week.
That’s understandable. I mentioned earlier it’s interesting that Netflix had the foresight to see a similar opening for Stranger Things and had a warning up right away. Now Disney instead had to react to initial reactions to put a warning up.
I'm not used to seeing Flea in acting roles, so for a moment my brain was trying to figure out why Michael Rooker looked like he fused with Ed Harris. Also, would it not be easy for Reva to find out where the cargo ship Obi-Wan and Leia are on is headed?
Probably. But their head start could be enough time to find further transport that she wouldn’t know about.
This was great. The chase scene in the woods was obviously rough and there were some weird camera things but glad to see ewan.
I was like is that Flea from RHCP? This thread confirmed that haha. Loved these first two eps. Ewan was one of the saving graces of the prequels and here he doesn’t disappoint. Interesting to see him go down a similar route to Luke by ‘loosing touch with the force’. The Obi-wan we see in these eps is massively different to the one we see in A New Hope. My bets are that Qui-Gon Jinn appears later in the series as a force ghost.
It’s sort of like poetry, they rhyme. and oh yea, Qui gon will 100% show up at least as a voice, if not full force ghost. They emphasized him in the recap and Obi-wan already called out to him, implying he’s already communicated with him or is learning to.
Obi-Wan in these episodes has definitely had a Luke TLJ feel. His intro also mirrored Rey's in TFA a lot too (we see him at a shit job, making some space instant meal, staring into the distance outside his home).
Only part I'd agree with so far is the visual character. The first two episodes have been shot in a very bland way. But I can't think of too many eye-rolly references. Maybe Luke's toy spaceship, but that at least ended up serving some narrative purpose with Owen.
Does this show spoil any of the Rebels show? I’m currently watching Rebels and I don’t want to spoil anything by watching Obi Wan.
So far, no. And I doubt it will, as those events are 3-8 years later. Although it does seem to imply either that Rebels is not canon or the show doesn’t care for canon. Remains to be seen.
This is such a stupid complain (the tweet, not yours) and goes to show that fans of a franchise as a whole just cant enjoy anything without nitpicking these days.
