Based on that interview, Friend never watched Rebels, so his only reason for mentioning that he can fly with his saber is that it happens in this series.
Unpopular opinion, but I like the helicopter lightsabers. They're goofy as hell. But I could see it maybe not translating well to live action.
So the official UK D+ account says we should remove watch a few Clone Wars arcs. Two of them have Satine as a major part of them. After Kennedy’s comments on the idea of Kenobi having a kid is a huge no-no to her, it seems odd that this show would have him somehow struggling or thinking about Satine. Could we actually get a flashback with her in it? The idea of including her is intriguing.
I think it makes sense for him to be thinking of her because he’s at his lowest point, wondering if it’s all worth it, if he made the right choices. For years he was the good Jedi and look where it got him. If he pushed back more or even left the Order he could have been with his love and maybe even saved Anakin when he was in a similar spot. I’m guessing that will directly tie into the hopefulness that they are talking about where at the end he becomes content and empowered by the role he has to play, like he was in A New Hope.
So I decided to watch the episodes they suggested to watch. 2.16 Voyage of Temptation is so good. And somehow I had completely forgotten how it ended. With both Satine and Obi-Wan having to choose killing or risk the lives of the whole ship, but either way that person would lose on a personal level. Only for Anakin to be like “fuck that nonsense” and nonchalantly stabs Merrik in the back killing him and saving everyone on the ship like it wasn’t a big deal. I’d forgotten all that and when his lightsaber pops out of the chest I clapped with joy haha man when this show was good it was goooood.
The genius of that moment is you want to clap, but then see Obi-Wan & Satine’s reaction and feel bad about it. It plays so well in the gray area of war.
Is it possible to watch those episodes and have any idea what’s going on if you haven’t watched the series?
I think so, the series is built around telling shorts arcs. if you’ve seen the movies, I don’t see why you couldn’t just jump into them. I’m finishing the first set of episodes and the first three are it’s own thing and the 4th is stand alone and oddly doesn’t have Obi-Wan or even Anakin in it. Unless they pop up at the very end, I can’t recall. But it’s a Padme focused episode.
Do you guys think they're actually gonna try to explain Obi-Wan aging so much between this series and ANH? I could see them coming up with some weird shit
Is that something someone needs explained? I've never once considered that there was a story behind Obi-Wan getting old.
I just assumed the “being on tattooine under the two sons all the time ages people’s skin faster” was canon at this point lol
I hope they have Ewan look directly into the camera, say “man the sun can really age you out here” and then wink a couple of fingers guns and an “ehhhh you get it???” Lol
Despite recent issues, I am still excited for this. Having rewatched the prequels, Clone Wars movie, and this Clone Wars arc I am so ready for more Obi-Wan.
