That guess seems high to me :) It was always strange to me how much less famous they seemed here than I thought they were based on radio airplay, etc. I only had the pleasure of seeing them once (2005, obviously past their prime, but still) and it remains, to this day, the worst attended amphitheater show I have ever seen. There may have been 1100 people there at a 20k capacity venue. This was when they toured with Jet and Kasabian. It felt like the first 6 rows were full and after that the whole house was empty. Weirdest fucking thing, but I enjoyed the hell out of it regardless.
Wow I always knew they were not as big over there but not by that far! Kasabian alone would have sold out 5k venues in Europe in 2005 probably. The opposite happens over here with american acts too, I’ve been able to see a lot of my favorite bands in really small venues.
Oasis could probably compete pretty well for the biggest band who never ‘broke’ in America title. Europe, South America, Japan - they’re gods, hundreds of thousands of people. America - largish theaters to smaller arenas, at best. wild.
Why would they not tour the states? They always sold pretty well here. Those Don’t Believe the Truth and Dig Out Your Soul North American tours both did all arenas. Add on the 15 year break and the hype around the reunion, I’d expect them to do a full US arena tour, including small stadium dates in LA and NY
I thought we were talking about a hypothetical scenario where they announce a reunion tour. If they're doing a tour in the UK, they'll do a tour in the US. Sure they aren't AS popular in the US as they are in the rest of the world, but they're still pretty popular here. It's just they're a stadium level act amongst the rest of the world, where they're only an arena act here (or large theaters in non-major cities). If they're gonna reunite it's gonna be solely for the money, and there's plenty of large moneybags waiting for them here. (cough Coachella cough)
Yep, they were one of various blind spots so it was about time. Was surprised at the amount of songs from the earlier albums I recognized but wasn't aware they were attributed to them all this time. Too early to pick a favorite album, that'll come with further listens but I liked everything I heard. I forgot to! Happy to know there's still tons of music waiting between Liam and Noel's own projects.
You’re in for a treat! I envy you, you can enjoy the music without the bias of decades of band drama. When you finish you’ve got to pick a favorite brother, if not you are not a true fan hahah
John Squire continues to tease Liam Gallagher collab album by hailing him as "in the same class as Dylan, Jagger and Rotten"
