Revisited the BoyHitsCar debut from 2001, still rules. It's like a spiritual Jane's Addiction take on the genre.
Love that band and I'm so glad they reappear every five or six years with a fresh new album, hot from the oven.
Yes, this is the case, although the current lineup has been together since 2014. They're working on putting another album out next year!
That one always gets me. It's about as bad as F11's Drag You Down: "It's biting it's teething it's biting I'm bleeding, It's calling it's crawling it's calling and I'm falling"
Wargasm's new album might be the best nu-metal thing I've heard in a while. The song with Fred Durst on it is dope.
Yep it's a great surprise. Now it bums me out I arrived too late to catch them opening for Enter Shikari.
Division is one of my favorite albums in that genre but I'm not super familiar with the rest, despite having heard all of it. Time for a discography run.
It is a YouTube short so I can't embed it, but after his RaRHoF induction RATM's Tom Morello had some divisive words about Nu-Metal. He apologizes for having any indirect role in creating or planting the roots of the genre He says RATM built up a large global audience that they failed to timely serve, and in the years long gaps between their albums the studios wanted groups with a similar sound, that appealed to the same audience, but "played the game" to fill the void. He says that is how Nu-Metal was born. He says there is good music in that genre and talented people in that genre, but he didn't like the "ethos" of Nu-Metal which he feels was misogynistic, anti-women, and fratty, and lacked the political and intellectual content that RATM had. https://youtube.com/shorts/qYKffRWB4v8?si=fJAHjq21vuJzqx1P
Honestly, while I'm not going to say that didn't exist, I feel like that attitude was not nearly as prevalent in nu-metal as detractors like to say. IMO Limp Bizkit was responsible for that attitude overshadowing the genre, but even they were doing it in a tongue-in-cheek way. Besides them, how many examples can you really cite? Linkin Park wasn't like that. System wasn't like that. Korn wasn't. Deftones weren't. Papa Roach wasn't. It feels like a blanket assumption.
Tom Morello seems to get dumber with age but it also feels like this is mostly a response to the recent morons who never paid attention to their lyrics before saying "Rage went woke"
https://www.theprp.com/2023/11/03/news/gravity-kills-set-for-reunion-show-this-month/ Another band reuniting. In other news, 40 below Summer are in the studio working on a new album.
