Hearing a lot of people praising LRD's performance. Wonder if will give her enough last second bump to get an Oscar nom.
People on here are loving the movie while people on facebook are hating it. I'm going to love it. Had a ticket for last night, but started to feel sick and changed the date to Sunday.
Yea she had to do some heavy lifting to convince me on her after deciding to do The Idol but she really was great in this
unfortunately i think im closer to @JoshIsMediocre here than most. its a 3.75ish for me. a lot of it really works and it looks incredible and most of the performances are great. atj and mcburney were terrible and there were some tonal things that didn’t work for me at all. it’s still “good” but i think i overhyped my expectations going in my wife said immediately coming out of the theater “5* instant classic” and she hasn’t liked a movie we’ve seen together this year since first omen i don’t think
ok yeah actually i did think McBurney was pretty bad, felt like he was in a different movie until Willem showed up and wasn't good after that either
Ok she was like 16 for that movie, I really don't hold that one against her if we're not gonna be holding The Idol against her haha
If a movie is bad you generally shouldn't hold it against the actor, especially a young and inexperienced one. They can only do what the directors tell them to do.
Haven’t seen it yet but looking forward to 1) finding out who each of the 12 acronym people are & how they did and 2) whether this registers for me closer to Witch or Lighthouse. I loved the former, I appreciated what he went for but did not enjoy the latter.
This was good! I like ATJ more than most but he definitely stuck out here. The Nosy (my nickname for him) design was pretty cool. Creepy as fuck and looked fantastic.
Loved this. Thought the first 30 minutes or so were solid, and then it really ratcheted up from there for me. Also thought ATJ wasn't great and the Orlok makeup was slightly distracting at times, but Eggers is such a master of visual style and atmosphere. Loved most of the performances here and especially the moonlight sequences. I would agree that this is likely Egger's most accessible (Northman aside), and when I see people calling it "shallow," I can't help but think about how faithful it is to the source material. I don't think Eggers was stretching as much thematically as usual here, which I was honestly fine with
Enjoyed this. Loved the gothic dread that was present throughout instead of intense gore & jump scares. Eggers does moonlit shots like nobody else.
