Admittedly don’t think I listened to Northlane prior to Alien so this is new to me

I’m really missing the ambience in these new mixes. The heavier guitar and bass presence is welcome and sounds good but I’m wondering where that spacey feeling went that made Node so cool…

curious to hit the redux today, node is imo a very badly produced album in its original form so maybe this is gonna be what the doctor ordered? we'll see lmao. i don't normally like the combo of putney and this particular band

I’ve played the hell out of rot.exe so I’m excited to hear the rest. It’s so good with Marcus’ redone vocals.

  5. Never listened to their pre-Mesmer material much, diving into Node redux atm and am probably going to revisit the original later to compare the two

  7. Node has so many jams, I definitely slept on that album for way too long.

Now's also the time to give their pre-Marcus stuff another chance. Something just doesn't click everytime I try as I tend to dismiss it all as generic early 2010s djent

the redux really worked for me yeah, i wasnt into the og node much because of the mixing and this is night and day in the best way possible

discoveries will always be my goat from this band, adrian had both my favorite lows and favorite lyricism in this whole scene. that album, erra's impulse and volumes's via all coming in a 2 month span was nothing short of insane

  13. Makes me want to revisit their whole discography. I know they've just done the Node revamp but I hope 2026 brings us a new album, I'm so excited to see where they take their sound next

Was talking with a buddy of mine recently about how awesome this teaser was for Mesmer.

I wish they’d do more stuff like this on their albums, or work more cinematic stuff into their songs periodically, because they’re great at it.

looks like they're in the studio with Mick Gordon and Jordan Fish.

lmao yeah uh not where i was hoping theyd go

this is one band where i honestly prefer when everything is done in house. i feel like they have a great ear for how the aesthetics they go for these days go together and outside help thus far has just made their music more cluttered. super not a fan of what putney did on the last ep for example

  18. Idk I'm neutral about this info, I trust the band's vision

  19. From earlier this year, before they announced Node Reloaded. Guess a full new album still won't see the light of day for a while

    I kind of agree tbh…

Dante was incredible but the EP was pretty inconsistent, and the Node remaster, the drums just sounded like a blanket resample, and IMO, the snare sound isn’t particularly good in a number of the tracks… And some parts that were more spaced out and ambient before, they seemed to just thicken up the heavier guitars way too much to where you kind of lost the original intent (I wasn’t particularly happy with the Soma rework).

It’s just like I’m questioning the ear of the sound and mix engineers of their latest releases and I don’t like it… like their hearts just aren’t in it, or they don’t quite know where the band is coming from.

But I will say, the idea of them working with Jordan Fish has me intrigued. I feel like he gets that electronic aesthetic and frenetic energy and chaos I think they’re going for.

as long as we don't get that Jordan Fish machine gun double kick breakdown, I think we will be okay. I don't see that fitting in with Northlane at all.

i thought renoded mostly sounded fine but i also genuinely cannot stand how the og sounds so the bar was on the floor lmao. i do think putney is an extremely confusing fit for this band that ive never understood lol has not worked for me yet as a pairing

i would love to hear them with dan braunstein one day but hes such an obvious choice for their style that i almost wonder if theyre deliberately not going for him

Everybody who has gone to Fish has gone for a very specific thing and everything he works on sounds like a very slight variation of that specific thing so I can’t say my hopes are especially high, would love to be wrong

This and Alien are their best by quite a distance

discoveries will always be my goat northlane but that is basically a different band. this is def my favorite marcus album though. dropped when i was still a music tech student so it ended up being pretty influential on the way i thought about production lol

As long as Cervini doesn’t mix this I think it’ll be fine.
