Still haven't seen a movie at the Nightlight! Let me know how it is.
Let me know how it is! I've still never been to the Nightlight.

I honestly had no idea Peabodys was torn down. I guess that explains why I haven't heard anything about the venue. :crylaugh:

O'Brother scheduled to come on in 5 minutes!

  4. Very small, but quaint. It was an enjoyable experience. I never thought I'd see Spirited Away on a screen bigger than mine at home. Go check it out!

  5. I ended up getting a little higher than anticipated so I was just chilling in the back before you go down the stairs copping a lean. I got there for the last couple Rare Futures songs and enjoyed that (wasn't familiar with them at all) and then left right after O'bro.

Fuuuuuuuck they were good. I saw them not too long ago at Mahall's but the sound wasn't nearly as good as Musica last night so this set was special. How were The Dear Hunter?

I thought The Dear Hunter was great! O'Brother was the reason why I went to the show, but I enjoy The Dear Hunter and had never seen them live before so it worked out pretty well. They played from about 10-12 and were great. The setlists on setlist.fm look to be pretty accurate. I guess they've been playing a new song at some of the dates, but they didn't play anything new at the Akron show. The whole band sounded great though and I'd definitely check them out the next time they're in the area.

O'Brother was awesome and I wish they would've had time for another few songs. I don't dislike any of their songs, but if I had to make a list of my least favorite O'Brother songs, Easy Talk would probably be near the top of the list. I don't know, I just have never really connected to that song. Anyway, it's a pretty long song and I would've rather seen them play a couple shorter songs in its place. Something like Perilous Love/Machines Part II. And I think they should close every show they ever do with Machines Part II haha.

After O'Brother played I talked with Anton for about five minutes at the merch table. We mostly just talked about different restaurants in the area to check out. He's such a nice guy and really down to earth.

I enjoyed Rare Futures too-I checked out their album earlier in the week but I still wasn't really familiar with anything that they played. They were a good opening act though and Matt Fazzi definitely has a lot of energy. Gavin from The Dear Hunter joined Rare Futures for a song and Nick (Sollecito, not Crescenzo) from The Dear Hunter joined them for another song.

All in all, I had a very good time at the show! Unfortunately the Cavs didn't win their game, but at least I didn't skip the show to watch a loss...

  7. Yeah, I got to see those two Rare Futures songs where they had the guests out.

and I'm very glad I was distracted by live music. Beachland had a TV with the game on set up at the corner of the bar so I was peaking. Got to see them take a small lead in the third quarter which was fun but then it started slipping away in the fourth and tried to forget about it.

    The best venue: Beachland Ballroom
    The WORST venue: Blossom.

I've been to most of the venues in Northeast Ohio and for the most part, don't have a real huge issue with any of them other than Blossom. Worst traffic in and out and just really in the middle of nowhere. I was really big into The Agora when I was in high school, then HOB opened up and kind of ruined the whole Agora scene. Bands stopped playing there and instead started playing at HOB which is a worse venue, imo. But I do like how HOB is in the middle of everything so you can hang out at nearby bars before and after.

Musica in Akron is great, and if you get the chance, go to 3 Point for food and drinks before a show. They have nothing but Thirsty Dog on tap there and great food. Muhalls is cool too. I personally think Grog Shop is a bit overrated but I do love Coventry, so I don't mind going there.

By the way, Cleveland is the best city on the map.

  9. Definitely don't disagree with the criticisms of Blossom but I want to just give it some love for being an absolutely gorgeous amphitheater, aesthetically. I don't go there often, though, and when I do I'm probably more likely to see the orchestra than a popular music act. I would have liked to see that Florence show there a couple weekends ago but I had too much else going on that weekend.

Took me 90 minutes to get out of Blossom when I saw Eric Clapton. It's a shit mess.

  11. Was that like 8ish years ago? I was there too if so

Hey I lived in East Liverpool! I was born in Lisbon but lived in East Liverpool until the fifth grade when I moved to Reno, NV, where I still live to this day (I'm 19 now). I need to visit there to see some family sometime. Is that drive through convenience store still there? I think it was close to the 4th and long iirc.

No way! That's so weird to see someone originally from EL on here. There's a few of those stores still around town. There's one downtown near Walmart and one in East End. To be honest, I have never been to one and I'm 22.

Anyone going to the Motion City Soundtrack show tomorrow?

Yeah it's crazy! I actually said "no way" out loud and my girlfriend thought something awful had happened. Those drive through stores were cool because I can remember my mom going through and getting basic groceries for the week in like under a minute, plus they had these big lollipops that were literally just sugar and tasted like smarties and were delicious.

Just saw this thread! I live in Warren currently, have for the past 5 or so years. I grew up in the very small town of Hartford, would not recommend it lol Warren is much better but I would love to move to Cleveland eventually. I'll be at the MCS show tonight! It is going to take everything I have not to just cry the whole time so hopefully I can keep it together.

Most people I know go through to get beer and cigarettes. I think last summer I went through with some friends, and got one of those lollipops. Those are definitely a throwback.

My friend decided to bail on me for the show tonight. I've decided to head there a few hours early since I have a two hour drive. I'll be wearing a black tank and have a ghost tattoo on my upper arm. I'm not hard to miss. :crylaugh:

Cleveland legitimately has a lot of great restaurants. What kind of food are you looking for? My favorites downtown are the Greenhouse Tavern and the Butcher and the Brewer.

    Also, Hi thread!

I live in Highland Square (Akron). Anybody checking out Jazz Fest this weekend?
