yeah, even if this isn't your thing, it's gonna be hard to criticize it much. very well done
Normal People Has a Marianne Problem
I haven't read the book, but this seems pretty fair
I also haven’t read the book but everything mentioned in here is probably why I felt like we knew Connell better than Marianne by the end of the series
I’ve got the book at home, my wife read it. Scanned a few pages and a lot of the dialogue is almost exactly the same
from what i gather, the book is more “marianne’s” and the show is more “connell’s” kinda obviously. since both were written by sally, i don’t think it really needs to be interrogated that deeply but idk.
The dialogue is almost exactly the same, which is why it's such an impressive adaptation. To that article's point, I don't think the book itself ever describes Marianne as ugly, it was how she saw herself. She's described, at least how I interpreted it, as plainly beautiful, which the casting nails. And I'm glad they didn't carry over the brother being consistently abusive, the show worked much better with the quieter sides of neglect and abuse being portrayed. I also don't agree with the point that the article makes, that her not being ugly means that all the bullying she went through in school isn't as effective, I think her being an outcast because of who she is works way better to illustrate her low self-worth than it would if it focused on her ugliness. Sorry for the rant, love this book and the show. Read Rooney's other book, too, I like it even better than this one!
Paul and Daisy are playing Mario Kart on ig live right now
Daisy's wifi is shit tho lol she looks like 8 pixels
also Jamie Dornan keeps commenting asking Paul to take his shirt off
also also Phoebe Bridgers left a couple comments calling Paul a bitch lol
Just finished this and loved it. I hope they continue the story in some way.
Phoebe Bridgers and Paul are talking on Wonderland’s Instagram at 3PM EST today
Finished last night.
Hit far too close to home and a crushing portrayal of a young love story.
I'll echo everyone's sentiments, beautifully shot and the performances were phenomenal

Is nothing sacred
Didn’t know there was a thread! I fucking absolutely loved this and am dying for more. Gonna have to pick up the book, and I haven’t read a book in like five years.
Wild. I had no idea this was released in America. Great seeing an Irish show getting this attention.
Eight episodes in and Niall is the best character. Everyone else is always sad or angry but my man Niall just vibin.
he’s a ride or die too
Starting this now. I assumed the episodes were an hour long, so the length is a pleasant surprise. Now I understand how so many people were able able to binge the entire thing in one day.
Just finished the book. I loved it so much. I can’t wait to watch
three episodes in, i like it but it improves from there right?
halfway done w/ the season
finished last night. this was great, didn't think it'd basically cut me open by the end
I'm 5 episodes into this and it's breaking me
Just started episode 9...these motherfuckers need to stop dating new people
been slowly making my way through the book and god it’s wonderful
I also love how many times I recognize full bits of dialogue from the show
This is bullshit this isn’t a happy ending I am broken
why didn’t any of you stop me??
