Normal People (Hulu, 2020) TV Show

Alright I said I didn’t want to make a thread for this but I couldn’t resist. This is already my #1 show of 2020 two episodes in.

 

I have to give a plug for the book. It's really great. You get to really know the two main characters. I think the success of the show is partly due to the author being one of the writers. Reminds me of how good of an adaptation Perks of Being a Wallflower was. Authors should always be part of the adaptation process.

 

halfway through and this is incredible. infinitely better than perks, feels like a disservice to compare them. way more interior thought and feeling to the characters.

plus it’s shot beautifully. fuck, i love this. paul and daisy are gonna be stars.

 

Misunderstood my post, I only meant to compare as in saying that was a good book adaptation as well because the author was involved. Hard to think of authors who adapted their own book. Perks was the first that came to mind.

 

Devoured this in a couple days — best thing I’ve watched in quite some time. A lot of Connell’s struggles were almost uncomfortably relatable to me; there’s a scene towards the end of the series that affected me more than anything I’ve ever seen on film or TV, no exaggeration.

Both actors are fantastic and should become stars after this, but holy shit Paul Mescal in particular is incredible.

 

I decided to watch this after seeing the trailer when I was browsing Hulu last week (didn’t know of the book) and I couldn’t stop once I started.

The performances are outstanding and a lot of the story hit close to home for me. So glad I watched

 

two episodes in and this show is pretty much ticking all my boxes

 

Almost done with this and it rules and is also killing me

this is definitely the most beautifully shot show I’ve seen in a long ass time

 

okay wow episode 10 is making me cry a lot

 

the scene with the therapist was unreal

 

I’m trying to make this last. Only watched 4 so far. It’s very difficult to not binge it all immediately, but I don’t want it to be over.

 

yeah i selfishly want like 20 seasons of this


cast them both in the next bond after craig dips out

just cast these two in everything god damn

 

the last two episodes are honestly perfect

i know a lot of young actors do one or two things and disappear but i can honestly see these two sticking around for the next ~50 years, pending the world not burning

 

Has anyone else rewatched? I’m already on episode 9 again lol. I love it so much

 

i’m planning on reading the book and then watching again after i finish

Show is unreal. Just powered through the first 3 and I feel so many emotions. Need to sleep but just want to watch more.

 

Yeah watched through episode 7. Probably the best chemistry I’ve seen in an on screen pair in quite some time, maybe even ever. Hard to believe this is Mescal’s first onscreen role

 

The prose is so damn good. You'll read it in a day. I want to read her debut novel now Conversations with Friends.

 

I started this last night after only seeing a trailer and knowing nothing else about it, and I had to stop at episode seven at 1:30am because I was this close to staying up all night. Fuck. I'm not even done and I already need the book.
