I'm not disagreeing with that, but I'm saying those two things are why his films have strangely high expectations. Regardless, the social media embargo breaks tonight and the review embargo not until Wednesday night which probably isn't a good sign
I think at this point I enjoy Us more than Get Out, it's a great summer horror movie and to me has a lot of rewatch value, while I haven't been compelled to revisit Get Out as often. I have a feeling the aliens in this are a misdirect and something different is actually going on.
In a week where we have studio hacks like Joe Russo calling for the death of the theatrical experience and the very idea of auteurs having a vision, we should celebrate Jordan Peele getting to make something like this on this scale even if it ends up not working
The 7:22pm time to tie in with the 7/22 release date is the dumbest piece of marketing "synergy" I have ever seen.
Calling Peele a “master” is just dumb marketing like when “The Watchmen” called Zack Snyder “visionary.” He definitely deserves credit for his commitment to direct and produce movies and shows from creatives that likely wouldn’t get the chance otherwise. Wish him and JJ’s names could have saved “Lovecraft Country.”
if i'm being honest i don't see a huge of amount of critics i generally am on the same page with, so hopefully this isn't yet another instance of universal or another studio being choosy as to who sees this early and how likely the ones they picked are to more likely drum up the hype they need
I think it’s very much a shill screening, considering there’s no word from discerning critics who are usually trustworthy. The movie screens for everyone else tomorrow night.
oh yeah this is great. jordan takes the larger budget and some of his influences and end up with a slam dunk. can’t wait to see this again to pick up on more items
Definitely see the Jaws comparison. That said, wasn’t hugely into it mainly because I wasn’t really into characters, despite Palmer, Kaluuya and Yuen being solid. Visuals, score and cinematography were all great, but it was a slight miss for me.
Got tickets for Thursday and I’m very much pumped. Jaws comparisons and Seth enjoying it is enough for me.
