Same. I know they probably want to avoid spoilers but wild that pretty much nothing has been published about this. I think the embargo lifts Tuesday? Which is kind of exciting but also (sometimes) worrisome. It’s either because it’s great or terrible, I’m betting on the former.
Us is good. Even though the 2nd trailer feels spoiler heavy the embargo doesn’t lift til the night before release, and the cast is contractually obligated to not give away a single plot point in interviews so maybe it’s just super secretive? All I have really heard is Peele wrote this with spectacle in mind and Daniel Kaluuja has been saying this is basically an action movie. So holding out hope this is a blast
definitely my most anticipated of the year. I’m so pumped. Probably going late Thursday night, at the same theater I saw Get Out in.
Love Get Out. Us not so much. Way too conceptual without much substance, and all the ideas end up feeling disconnected—the more you think about it, the worse it seems. Whereas with Get Out, it improves as you think about it. At this point, I’d say I’m cautiously excited for Nope.
i had fun with Us in the theaters but it wasn't really what i wanted and i've rewatched it zero times since and had virtually no conversations about it since. i think this looks good but it is a little weird that Peele has seemingly been given the "master" stamp of approval for ... one good movie
I don't know about a "master" stamp, but I think it's perfectly reasonable that people love his style and are highly anticipating this considering how great Get Out was, how good Us was (sorry!), but also that he's been able to bring so much to conceptual horror films as a black director
I've noticed this too and the acclaim he gets is done in a way that makes it seem like he's waaaaay deeper into his filmmaking career than he is. maybe I'm just being cyncical and arrogant but it feels like it's just mainstream media impressed by actual sets and "big" feeling blockbusters that are original IP.
I mean he makes interesting and original movies and isn’t afraid to just go for it. He seems like a breath of fresh air. Let him be hyped up.
i mean i'd rather see his movies, even when they don't work for me like Us, than something from a dope like Nolan or David O. Russell lol and I'm gonna see this opening night. just seems like his hype is a bit disproportionate with what we've actually gotten at this point. by quite a bit.
I wonder if it has anything to do with him being known strictly for comedy and then the first movie he directs is Get Out
Key and Peele is great sketch comedy. I think he's proven with that and his movies (along with the stuff he's produced) that he's a competent enough creator, and that he can also make an inspired film (like with Get Out). Sometimes he can let his creativity run amok (like with Us) but like @phaynes12 said, I'd rather see his work over something unoriginal / unimaginative.
I have a strange feeling there's a huge twist that we don't know about this yet. Aliens/UFOs just seems way too on the nose, especially with how much the trailers are showing us.
