An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I think the framing of the shot with OJ surrounded by mist, under a sign that says Out Yonder and in a pose similar to their great-etc. grandfather in the film that kickstarted it all kinda suggests that it's a vision of Em's. not saying he's literally a ghost or anything but it sure reads like a vision to me

It never even was a thought for me that maybe OJ died until I came in here

Same. I also thought the alien was keeping that shoe up at first tho so I'm all for whatever theory no matter how out there.

  4. I also kinda don't care what the literal explanation is, that interpretation makes the most sense to me so I'm going to keep it lol. The manuscript sounds sick though.

Well shit. Twitter really is sending me down a NOPE rabbit hole today. I had no idea the Gordy storyline coupled with the “Oprah shot” was based on this:

Going to issue a Trigger Warning here because this video features audio of a truly haunting police call alongside footage of the aftermath.

Also, someone else on Twitter wrote that their interpretation of the shoe, while agreeing that it’s a bad miracle, was the phrase “waiting for the other shoe to drop.” The shoe standing up while Jupe is staring at it is a sign that this event with Gordy wasn’t the end because it hasn’t dropped yet. The bad miracle shoe is the ultimate foretelling of Jupe’s inability to learn his lesson as the other shoe finally drops during his encounter with Jean Jacket. Jupe thought the shoe was some sort of divine miracle and that Gordy had chosen to spare him; that he and Gordy had some significant bond and understanding that the others didn’t (the fist bump) rather than the avoidable, tragic occurrence it actually was where Jupe was spared by simple luck. So he makes the same mistake the Producers of Gordy’s Home made, believing himself to be special, and he pays for it. I think him inviting the disfigured girl from the television series is another example of his willful ignorance in that he’s trotting her out in front of an audience as a display; a trauma to be gawked at and profited from which ultimately gets her killed as well. He finishes off her tragedy.

Would be nice if his secret office got destroyed in the attack and that shoe finally fell down.

I didn't catch initially that the camera was aimed at the shoe, since your attention switches between that and gordie.
I also didn't think Gordie could see where Jupe was looking, so the scene didn't really click to me.

Nevertheless I was hoping there would be a known cause (more than a purpose, for which the whole not looking at the animal in the eyes thing makes sense) for the standing shoe.

Not a fan of not knowing if an image is real or not. I always assumed OJ lived, easily explained by Em having successfully (albeit accidentally?) diverted JJ's attention. And I assumed the shoe is in fact defying gravity, and not imagined or upright by mere chance.

Is Jordan Peele the most mass analyzed filmmaker since Stanley Kubrick? I appreciate how much his work has been able to resonate in social media discussion and I’m not sure there’s another mainstream director whose cinema is as dissected to that level. Christopher Nolan comes close but I don’t think it’s the same at all

  11. I'd say so, which is simultaneously a cool and kind of annoying thing to be happening in the present lol

twitter discussions are extremely annoying but all the discussions ive had with people have been great, even from those who were not as into it.

Yea, that was clearly a flashback and I don’t know how people could view it as being present day.

I’m avoiding the theater today because of the $3. I’m glad it’s happening for those who don’t normally go due to lack of funds. But since I have a pass to go whenever I want to, the lower price does nothing for me and it’ll be more crowded for me.

but hey, glad you went and enjoyed it!

Whoa, that rules. My local theater only has 3D and I hate 3D so won’t make me go see anything like that. But again, that’s pretty cool for those who normally can’t go but are able to today.

The Gordy stuff was super powerful and intense. Definitely glad that was in there and it could’ve been really cool if it wasn’t cgi but the irony is we shouldn’t be using these animals anyway so it makes total sense.

I absolutely loved Kiki Palmer’s performance.

Saw a lot of comparisons to Jaws but I also thought this was a great Tremors nod. Which now I’m realizing is Jaws but they’re underground.

Two tequilas deep I likkkkkeed this movie a lot!

That pattern Jean Jackets mouth/teeth made was really something.
