thank yooooouuuuuu I’m well known for my musical hot takes, so it’s cool to know my movie opinions can illicit the same reactions. Every single person in this thread can disagree with me as much as you’d like, but I’ll at least remain proud of the fact that I always have concrete reasons for why I dislike things. You might all think they’re bad reasons, but they’re reasons nonetheless, and I’ll be more than happy to politely converse with anyone who actually wants to engage with my hot take opinions.
just fixed my original post. As I said, it was originally a message on Facebook. I checked it for grammar before re-posting it here, but when I originally wrote it, I couldn’t recall Emerald’s name off the top of my head. So it originally said “the female co-star” and I thought I had replaced that entire phrase with Em. If anyone thought my original comment meant anything derogatory towards Em as a female or being upset that the big victory was accomplished by a woman, I promise that wasn’t my intention at all.
I want to give an actual response to this but it feels like you watched a completely different movie or went into this wanting to hate it so I’m not going to bother. Just know that you are wrong.
The one thing I'll say about inconsistent powers is that the slowed down Sunglasses at Night doesn't make sense and that annoyed the hell out of me
And by the way, (and this is primarily directed at @imthesheriff ), I’ve actually learned a lot from this thread, and I’ve appreciated seeing people’s different interpretations of the movie and its themes, like the user who commented that the movie is about Hollywood stars selling their own trauma for profit. i have a lot of respect for what Peele was going for here on a conceptual level, even though I don’t personally think it was well-executed
He was absolutely playing the Quint part from Jaws right? When he started singing at the dinner table that was clearly an ode to the scene is Jaws.
Just watched this…didn’t see anyone else bring this up. They kept mentioning their great-great grandfather being the black jockey and how no one remembers his name or significance because of how movie making took off even though he played a historic significance: I felt this tied in directly to her at the end waiting for the pictures to develop, and seeing her pictures, knowing she got her “Oprah shot”, but then you hear the reporters in the background saying how they just got video footage of the whole thing (only noticed this due to the captions) Kind of showing you how black accomplishments that are the “first” of something immediately get co-opted and the historic importance is white-washed. Am I off base here? I’m sure someone else can word it better.
Saw this tonight and I think I liked it but I’m going to have to see it again without an entire family (that littered the aisle way with shoes and socks..what in the actual fuck) sitting right next to me speaking at full volume for 3/4 of the movie while loudly sharing snacks from a back pack. I do know that it feels pretty correct to land on the opposite side of Logan Paul when it comes to opinions on entertainment tho..lol.
There’s a weird rectangle square thing with you where a lot of the stuff you seem to like, I really like, but a lot of things I seem to like, you not so much lol. Lol think maybe I just am too easy to please or something but regardless, this movie fucking rules and it makes me think about my editing teacher who thinks Jaws is objectively the perfect movie, and the only film that can ever be used for any technique ever lol
