Hmmm. I feel that way about this movie more so lol but that shouldn't reflect negatively on this movie. He did admit to essentially trying to film the unfilmable (as reflected in this) and I think in that respect, he succeeded
We should also not let weirdo Twitter users fool us into underrating someone who is clearly an extremely talented filmmaker because even Peele thinks it's insane lol
I also feel like this but I can’t pin point exactly what it is other than maybe execution. But yeaaaah I loved this tons
Just watched this. Liked it a lot. Not really sure what there wouldn’t be to like here. That said, the commentary here confused me. I felt like it was making a cautionary statement on tragedy as spectacle only to just revel in it at the end with a simpler happy ending with the Oprah shot. It made the Gordy stuff (which I thought was the most haunting part of the film) feel more disjointed on top of that story thread literally dying halfway through. Definitely would love to know what others thought of that aspect of the story, as I’ve seen a lot of praise here but not many people touching on the themes. I wonder if I missed something.
I don't know if the ending is as simple or happy as it initially seems. I like the Oprah shot because it solidifies their continued legacy in film, but the shot of OJ under the Ol Yonder sign (or whatever it said) may have just been a vision. Up for interpretation. Definitely about the commodification of things beyond our control, though. Humans think they can train a chimp for entertainment and it ends in tragedy. Yeun's character tries to do the same thing with Jean Jacket, which even as a UFO should be more alarming to people, and it ends the same way.
Was also expecting Jean Jacket to spit out the cinematographer's camera with footage not only of, but inside the creature. Was surprised they didn't go that route, it would have justified his death.
I thought Angel stole the movie though. I kept thinking he was Dave Franco even though I knew it wasn’t him.
Yeah the supporting cast was just as good as the main cast here. Performances were honed in on all fronts
I thought it was Dave Franco in every trailer and only realized upon seeing it today that he was not, in fact, in this movie.
Only me and a couple other people in the theater were cracking up at Yuen’s endless praise of Chris Kattan as Gordy. He was exactly who I was picturing playing Gordy when Yuen said there was an SNL sketch about it lol
Jean Jacket would have fit in perfectly as an Angel from NGE. 3:52-4:10 here is so similar to how it moved at the end That + the Akira motorcycle slide. Jordan Peele anime fan confirmed
My girlfriend and I were the only ones busting up at that, I was shocked. I don't know if that means I'm old, it didn't seem like a particularly young crowd.
