A movie theater without popcorn seems so sad.

I usually don’t get popcorn at the theater. If I want a snack at my local theater, I get something at the nearby Five Below & put it in my pocket.

I wasn’t aware that popcorn of all things was considered juvenile

Popcorn is ninety percent of the reason to go to a movie theater.

This was very good. I’m so in love with the way Chloé Zhao captures mundane beauty. The whole thing was so tired & melancholy, but with so much charm & warmth sprinkled through. I feel like “honest” & “human” might be too obvious, lol, but it’s accurate.

I’m curious what she brings to genre franchises like Eternals & Dracula, but I also hope doing those kinda films doesn’t take her away from these smaller ones. Based on the piece I read about her last year, I am pretty hopeful she’ll keep wanting to & finding time to make these.

I'm pretty [cautiously] excited for Eternals. If Marvel Studios isn't slowing down any time soon, I'd like cool creative voices who also genuinely enjoy that genre to get to see what they can do with it, even knowing that it'll never stray as far as that Marvel house style as I'd like.

In my mind, the problem will be if Chloé spends the next five or so years going, like, Eternals -> Dracula -> Eternals 2, etc. Ryan Coogler hasn't done a non-Marvel project since 2015; what happened to Wrong Answer, which was supposed to be written by Ta-Nehishi Coates & star Michael B. Jordan? Taika Waititi was able to do Jojo Rabbit & the upcoming Next Goal Wins (starring Michael Fassbender), though we'll see what he does afterwards now that he's ingrained into both Marvel & Star Wars.

I'm currently optimistic Chloé will be able to find a good balance between big & small. I've read multiple pieces on her that noted her love for both Terrence Malick & Star Wars; plus, she seems to like having some simplicity in her life; plus, her partner seems to have pretty strong film opinions.

For all we know, she could've already met someone while shooting Eternals that she wants to build a movie around, lol.

This is playing at the best place (I think) to see a movie on the big screen in town. I was gonna wait until restrictions ease a little more to see something, but tbh if I see it’s going to leave (it’s a one screen theater) I may brave it because I have to see this on the big screen.

I think it's up to how safe you think the theater is & what your anxiety level is with things like that.

I saw it in a theater, first time going since Birds of Prey last year, & don't regret it. The movie was as gorgeous on the big screen as you'd think and, imo, worth it. But, I did find myself more anxious than I expected. It felt fuller & tighter than I thought when getting my ticket (saw it at an AMC in IMAX/"LieMAX"), & every time this one person behind me to the side made a noise, it took me out for a moment. Unless there's another movie I wanna see on a big screen this badly (which I don't think there is until Dune), I personally ain't going again 'til I get my vaccine. (Which, my one job is with kids, so hope it's not too much longer, lol.)

Oh I’m not remotely afraid of it, I work 50+ hours a week in a grocery store, it’s more about the level of restrictions.

Well right now you can’t eat in the theater, only the lobby, and I like having a coffee for a movie!

We clearly have very different mindsets & experiences, lol. I love coffee & love theaters, but I personally can't imagine waiting to see a movie because I couldn't simultaneously drink coffee.
