NOFX have shared the new song “Punk Rock Cliche.” The song was originally written for Blink-182, according to a new interview with Fat Mike:

Well, it’s a song I wrote probably six years ago when I was staying on Matt Skiba’s couch — as one does. This is when he had just been asked to join Blink-182 and they were demoing songs for California. I said, “Hey, check this out.” I played the song, and I said “I think this would be a great Blink-182 song.” He worked on some of the lyrics with me — some of them were already written. It was the first time we wrote together. He brought it to the band, they recorded it, and a few weeks later,

Im trying really hard to hear this as a blink song and I just cant get there. Maybe it's because of Fat Mike's vocals- but when he says he wrote this to be a blink style song - it's just not getting there for me. It also doesnt strike me as a catchy radio single - especially to be the lead single for a blink album. Idk maybe I'm trippin.

The chat is mysterious and important.

Agreed with both of you. And how does that work anyway, with blink writing their own songs?
How does that even come about having NOFX writing a song FOR them?

Eh. Okay song. There were a few bangers on part 1 so I'm confident there'll be better songs than this on the release

Yeah. I never thought that would happen. I guess being buddies with Skiba helped. Mike always seemed too Punk Rock for Blink though

Yah no. Mike is doing the drugs again. This sounds like a Nofx song lol

Quarantine sounds like a a NOFX song a lot.

Haven’t listened to this song yet, but the written and recorded by NOFX can’t help but sound like NOFX. I’m sure if there is a Blink version they infused themselves into it, but they also didn’t use it on a record so it’s probably sitting a hard drive somewhere.

Also, the Sugarcult guy wrote a Blink song (or with them also as a producer I believe).

I’m sure Mike’s just making a deal of it because Matt’s out and he still feels Blink borrowed some of their (NOFX) on stage antics from when back when. As skilled and creative as Mike can be, he does love attention.

    Might be Spider-Man...

Do blink and NOFX not get along? Don't think I ever knew that.

Maybe there’s a Tom sounding vocal style they try in this, a maybe a few moments, but I would never have thought this was written for a 2020 Blink hahaha

Pretty sure he also said that Blink's version was definitely better and that he ended up changing some things in his version. He also said he tried to release it as a split with Blink along with their version but they never responded lol. I think it's because he servered Travis A Spindrift with piss in it.

  12. I could definitely hear Skiba singing this.

I believe Matt was Mikes “Best Man” at his second wedding and Travis drummed in Mike’s Cooke the Clown solo album

Some stuff I probably preffered not to find out just to sleep better hahh. The song is good, would love to hear that proposed split - I do get not taking it for the first single back then, for sure, but the rest of it would baffle me a bit.

I think a blink version of this song would sound similar to something like Kings Of The Weekend.

Add in Travis' drumming, dual vocals...The palm mute stuff definitely sounds like blink to me.
