This was fun, but I couldn’t help feel a sense of emptiness throughout. Very cool action scenes, but the needle drops didn’t work and I feel like a lot of the other character connections/details were super half baked. John Wick lite, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the level of detail and worldbuilding in Wick is what sets it apart.
wasn’t great but had a bunch of fun. felt more like cheap a history of violence than something similar to JW
yeah I mean this is just the basic beats of John Wick with Bob Odenkirk subbed in for the lead role. there's still a lot to like about that pitch but you pretty much know from that whether it will be for you I liked it overall, but they didn't seem to know how far to lean into the comedy and stayed in this tentative jokey kinda tone. I kinda walked away feeling like they underused Odenkirk in a movie that featured him in every scene, which is a weird feeling to have
Just showed the knife room scene in John Wick 3 to my Dad - both of us had our hands over our mouths in disbelief/fear
this movie felt like 100mph the whole time. GvK still had a bunch of human shit that I skipped on two of the viewings.
This was...not good, lol, but I mostly enjoyed it for what it was. Odenkirk is good despite a shitty script, and the action sequences were obviously over the top and amazing. It lost its charm for me when they used a new needle drop every 10 minutes and also underutilized literally every actor here lol. Ending was also dumb. I know the John Wick comparisons are unavoidable (and apt considering the writer), but they literally lifted like two to three story elements here. Kinda ridiculous.
Definitely how I feel, and the emptiness is ironic considering John Wick had nothing to lose and Hutch had everything to lose here. The stakes just never felt real.
