Didn't hear the b-sides, that would be interesting. The shift into more of a rock sound was what I liked about White Noise. Don't remember anything really like this.
"I'm mostly being honest when I tell you that I'm fine, Until I wake up in the middle of the night, on the wrong side." Damn.
I’m finally listening to the Glorietta album and really enjoying it. It’s hit or miss but the highs are really high.
I don't have a problem with the direction, I just think it's a pretty middling song considering what he's capable of. But yeah, what I want from him is another stripped down folk album, and I really don't think that's happening, so...
Every time I listen to the White Noise b-sides, I get kind of pissed thinking about how great that album could have been. It's still good, but I'm pretty confused about some of the choices he made regarding what he cut and what he kept.
i love that he does whatever the fuck he wants. releases an album like white noise then turns around and releases a song that could be played during a weather channel broadcast.
Sounds very Tour Pin meets smooth Jazz God Don’t Talk To Stangers Anymore. Obviously prior to White Noise he was getting bored musically. It’s cool hearing his stuff from different projects and playing with other artists, even though I know most of us with prefer the acoustic origins.
The dude is a great songwriter, he’s got nothing else to prove on the acoustic/folk thing if you ask me. I love that he’s pushing himself with these last 20 or so songs. Even when he experiments with technique and different sound, it’s good to know he’s still going to deliver.
Noah’s still young though. Acoustic songs the and acoustic songs in your 30’s and 40’s would be totally different lyrically.
Anyone going to see him on this tour? Seeing him for like the 7th now lol. September 30th in Detroit. Wonder if it’s just him and Abby?
Having nothing left to prove in a certain genre/style doesn't mean you can't still write great songs in that genre/style, though. I'm game to see him explore new things, but White Noise is admittedly hit or miss and I felt like it was a pretty substantial step down lyrically from where he got with Carry the Ghost (which I still consider to be one of the two or three pure songwriting pinnacles of the decade so far).
I’m sure we’ll end with a another record like that one day, but I just don’t see him resting on his laurels.
Right, what I’m saying is we have different views of what constitutes “resting on ones laurels.” I think you can grow and evolve as an artist without leaving behind what you do really well.
For now though we get some of that in Glorietta, that’s a plus! But I really would take a record or EP full of what he released today.
