I loved this album from my first listen to it yesterday. I got some Ixora-era Copeland vibes from it, which made me very excited.
This record rules. Need to return to the previous to see where it stands. I adored select tracks on white, but ghost destroyed me back in the day.
On my first listen. Im a decent Noah fan, but I wasn’t super hyped for the album and didn’t really listen to any singles. But damn, this thing is really cool. The song “Lover” is giving me real 1975 vibes. Really excited for what I’m hearing so far.
OK this really grew on me over the weekend, I could actually see this becoming my favorite of his now
"Little Cup" is the only song that feels extraneous to me right now. "So What" into "All My Friends" into "Kamikaze" would be a lot more impactful as an ending message.
It’s frustrating how little impact his albums have outside of this website. I feel like no one else talks about them or writes about them.
Yeah I mean, was there any press at all for this album? Just googled quick and it's like, one story/interview with the Seattle Times.
He must like being on that label for some reason, but it's done no favors for his career over the last two albums. His songs are accessible enough (especially on this album) that a larger imprint would take a swing. If Coldplay wrote "Lose You" it would be a stadium filler.
Yeah, it’s interesting how few people I talk to know who he is. His early stuff was a huge hit among the hip Christian crowd in my town and at the college I went to, mentioned in the same breath as Gungor and others. (That’s how I first heard of him and partly why it took me so long to give him a chance.) A lot of those people seem to have jumped ship recently, based on a few conversations I’ve had. But I’ve always wondered how much that affected his broader appeal and why nobody outside this site even talks about the guy.
Can relate to this heavily. A lot of people from my old church got into him after he released Family.
And oddly enough, in that same breath, I was playing the new album all weekend and yesterday while I was doing dishes, my girlfriend said that parts of it sounded "worshipy" to her.
I don't necessarily know where someone of his ilk should be, label-wise, but I'd agree that Cooking Vinyl hasn't seemed to help him much.
Speaking of, has anyone else who got an LP had trouble downloading the tracks? I enter my download code and it says 'unavailable until 23/10/19'. I emailed them on Friday and still haven't heard back.
Do you it’s because people are less invested in discovering new music, and just instead listen to those mainstream influences he mentioned? Unrelated and sort of a general thought on Noah’s music. He’s a bit of a chameleon stylistically, but sometimes that can lead to mimicking seeming moments at times, instead of setting the trends. He’s a great song writer and singer, but maybe he just lacks a distinct “Noah sound”. I do appreciate the variety and range. Like I said, just a thought. Not an insult. I like songs from every release. Listening to Lover and thinking how different it is, but White Noise was different, and CTG was different, Young In The City different, and all in comparison to his first albums.
