I can't even begin to express how refreshing it is to hear an entire album following the (official) release of only one pre-release single (not including the ig story workaround for atlantis).
I don't have a good opportunity to actually sit down and listen to this until Sunday. But on Sunday I can go for a drive, so Sunday it is.
This is my favorite thing I’ve heard from him I think. I’ve always loved some of his songs but he tends to lose me somewhere during full album listens — this had me hanging on to every word from start to finish.
Goodness lord he and phoebe are good together. Kind of checked out on him after ledges for no good reason, really enjoying this
6 tracks in and this album feels effortless, like in the good way people say effortless, like when you see someone does something you know is hard to do but make it seem, like they can do it an infinite number of times easily. so there was like 3 bsides too or something still to come
That first track is a lyrical powerhouse. Every line is just so well written. Still need to sink some more time towards the rest of the album, but that one hit me instantly.
I told you on Twitter, but you really outdid yourself on this one man. Congrats, it’s so nice to express yourself so clearly and document love in a way you can be proud of.
Thank you again. I'm glad what I was trying to communicate came through, because it took me awhile and I struggled a bit trying to convey what this album does to me emotionally.
I have listened to Noah gunderson since 2015 and I do like this album, but my favorite song ever will be Caroline. Followed closely by cigarettes and poor man’s son. I really don’t like the music video for sleepless in Seattle, not that it matters. Regardless, he’s a solid musician, absolutely one of my favorites to spend an evening listening to.
“Blankets” feels like him working the jammy and electronic elements of WHITE NOISE into a more traditional structure.
I love blankets. I think this is his most cohesive work - but I need more time with it. The highs don’t hit me as hard as some of the highs on other records but it all flows so nicely.
Just wanted to echo other's thoughts, this is definitely his most complete album so far. It's just very, very good from start to finish.
I think I just need to spend some more time with this. I think Laurel and Hardy is a top 3-5 Noah song, but I definitely felt Lover was more cohesive than this on my first couple listens.
Atlantis or The Coast could absolutely be radio songs! It is awesome that he has been able to carve out a career where he has a steady following to do headliner shows, but it has never made sense to me that he doesn't have a following like City & Colour or other giant solo artists. The review posted is spot on. I saw his set this weekend in Denver. Awesome songs and even better banter. Hope this album brings more folks into the fold, especially with that Phoebe feature.
To me this is just another Noah Gundersen album. It's fantastic, but I wouldn't call it his best, he's just a fantastic artist making another fantastic album Feels a bit top heavy to me - Tracks 1-6 are all great, but not much hits me after that First few listens I'd say The Coast, Laurel and Hardy and Magic Trick are my favorites
