After having watched it again, I can't say I really understand all of the hate. Like at all. I remember being kind of let down with it when it first came out, but Casino Royale was really, really good and then Skyfall was like a damn magnum opus. It's quick & dirty and a nice little diversionary side-quest between two much more important missions. It's sorta like an action-heavy epilogue to Casino Royale. It's nowhere near as bad as Die Another Day. *Edited to add that it's no masterpiece or anything, and I suppose it may have failed to deliver on the promise of, or what people were hoping to see after, Casino Royale. But with my recent rewatch, Casino Royale was *slightly* less amazing than I remember it being, Quantum of Solace was better than I remember, and Skyfall was exactly as awesome as it has always been. That gorgeous cinematography! Casino Royale felt really, really long when I was watching it this time.
Oh yeah it’s nowhere near Day Another Day. It’s better than a lot of the worst Bond films ever. It’s just not as good as the other Craig ones.
Cinematography bothers me most in Quantum. The story also does feel like a Casino Royale epilogue/side quest. Still enjoyable though.
awful film. spectre isn’t great, it’s just kind of there. the other two are about as good as you can ask for from action.
I actually think I might like Spectre less than QoS overall. The plot of Spectre is kind of a mess to put it mildly.
Really hoping they have a great sendoff to Daniel Craig's Bond on this new one. Crazy to think how long it'll have been since it was supposed to come out... assuming of course it does actually come out in November.
He’s been Bond twice as long as Brosnan, which seems insane to me. Edit: Actually, longer than anyone if you don’t count NSNA
I'm getting ready to watch Spectre tonight. I'm trying to maintain an open mind seeing as how I seem to enjoy QoS much more than most people, but I've heard so many bad things...
I enjoy QofS and have enjoyed your perspective. Spectre is sadly awful and left a bitter taste in my mouth, particularly after Skyfall was so triumphant.
Also, I just got really depressed when I realized that Daniel Craig was my age that I am now when they made Casino Royale. My man was pretty fit.
Yeah Brosnan wasnt long, Connery was 9 years and Moore was 12 - Craig is currently at 15 years assuming his run officially comes to a close in 2021 with a November release of this one.
Spectre isn’t bad, it’s not great but it’s not bad. I think people were mostly just annoyed that they tried to pretend Waltz wasn’t playing Blofeld during the marketing campaign. It’s nowhere near as good as Casino or Skyfall but it’s way better than Quantum.
I didn’t care about that at all - my issue was they tried to tie everything together from the previous 3 films when to me that wasn’t unnecessary and detracted from the story. Yes there were loose ends from Casino Royale & QofS but the scene with the string (literally) tying things together was disappointing. In some ways they were trying to make Blofeld this big bad pulling the strings behind the scenes, like the old films. But that clearly wasn’t what had happened and for me the mental gymnastics took me out of the film. Would have much preferred it without that - just have Blofeld be Blofeld, not everything has to tie together in every way. Perhaps a product of its time in that respect?
Have to agree, it’s easily my least favorite of the Craig films. I’m a big QoS defender though (in my overall rankings, I have CR at #1, Skyfall at #7, QoS at #10 and Spectre at #15).
Ya, Quantum is solidly in the middle of the pack. A lesser Craig entry, but not as bad as Spectre. I watched The Living Daylights recently and really enjoyed it
Exactly my thoughts as well. The effort to tie everything together retroactively felt incredibly forced. “I am the author of all your pain”... come on lol Also, I think Andrew Scott was largely wasted in the movie... it was obvious to me that his character was going to be a villain from the beginning, and then when the reveal finally happens he doesn’t have much to do after that point. I think both him and Christoph Waltz didn’t get to truly shine as 007 villains as much as I was hoping, for different reasons.
What are the worst Bond films? I’d probably go Die Another Day, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker (Which is a shame because book Moonraker is probably the best.)
