my favorite part about Spectre was the opening single-shot scene and pretty much everything before the song. Other than that it was meh.
I personally thoroughly enjoy Spectre. the only thing that I'm like whatever about is the tying everything together. I think it's a cool idea, but an obvious afterthought. but I still had fun. It was not CR or Skyfall. and QoS I love watching right after CR treating it like an epilogue.
Agreed that we need a fresh story for the next one. The scene where Waltz is showing him how everything from the last few movies is all now tying together just fell flat for me.
I agree. but I do hope fresh story or not that it's Daniel Craig and he goes out on a high note. after him, my personal number 1 pick in Tom Hiddleston. After Kong and The Night Manager I saw how suave and badass he can be. And then really saw some emotional range in See the Light. I know he's already downplayed it, but I'd be happy with him.
Pretty sure it was released that Hiddleston wouldn't be playing Bond any time in the near future because they felt he was too smug for the role.
The tying together bit was what ruined the film for me. It was like they were trying too hard. I enjoy a lot of the action but as someone else said, it fell flat! Didn't they announce Daniel Craig is coming back last week?
Probably casino royale. The older bond movies are too cheesy for me to really revisit but maybe I should.
1. Casino Royale 2. From Russia... 3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service The James Bonding podcast is back and they are going over all of the movies again. In two episodes, they start with Goldeneye and they'll each randomly pick one from that point on. Can't wait to do my yearly rewatch.
Goldeneye was my first real exposure to the character. It was the first time seeing Bond in theaters so Brosnan holds a special place in my heart. He's who I visualize when I think of Bond, so it's a bummer he's saddled with mediocre movies. From that point on, I learned about the history of the character from my grandfather/parents, and learned Brosnan wasn't the first to play him, etc. Blew my mind and I was obsessed. And a random hot take... Tomorrow Never Dies is the best Brosnan-era Bond.
There's so many good films because even the old cheesy ones are endearing in places because I remember watching them in my childhood and have that classic feel. Oh man, I loved watching them growing up. I don't think it's been until the Daniel Craig era when I had matured to the point where I started looking at his Bond films through a 'film critic' lens - probably why I'm more critical of some of his four films than the others which, from a film perspective, are comparatively worse in many ways! Everything up to the end of Pierce Brosnan was still my childhood and I used to watch them all the time. I got all of them on videos for Christmas when I was 14 and used to set an alarm for 4.30/5 every other day to watch one before getting up for a school bus at 6.30am. Hilariously stupid but I loved them so much!
I used to love when TBS or TNT, forgot which one, would have the marathons. I would just sit on the couch and nap and watch Bond movies all day during those runs. My grandpa taped a bunch off the TV and had them on VHS, edited with the commercials out, that's how I watched them for years until I finally completed my own collection.
Goldfinger because for better or for worse it set the template for future Bond films while also being great in its own right.
I think Thunderball is my favorite, I do love Casino Royale. and Tomorrow Never Dies has a special place cause that's the first one I saw in theatres. Got the whole blu-ray collection and love watching through them all, for better or worse haha. Totally have the same marathon memories and taping them on tv as well.
I think if you did a consensus ranking, Goldfinger would come out on top, but personally my favorite is The Spy Who Loved Me. Big Roger Moore fan, and Jaws is one of my favorite villains. Die Another Day is absolutely the worst one.
