You're definitely going to need to watch Spectre before this if only because of characters that are carrying over.
man. spectre is absolute trash. Bond is one of my favorite movies cinematic properties out there but it’s a truly awful movie. cmon
recent watches: Live And Let Die - I've seen this movie like a dozen times and still can't remember most of it. The Man With The Golden Gun - Soooooooo 70's! love the set design, love Scaramanga. this one really feels like a Hammer James Bond movie. Hate the whistle and JW Pepper so much. The Spy Who Loved Me - The pyramid sequence is gorgeous n i love me a big ol' battle climax. Moonraker - I enjoyed this way more than I ever have. Very nicely shot, I wish this cinematographer had done more Bond. The yellow motif is lovely. Michael Lonsdale plays Hugo Drax a bit too sleepy for me; he's a very good villain but none of the menace comes thru in Lonsdale's performance. Also despite the space angle, this movie feels slightly less ridiculous than I remembered. The opening stunt is unreal. Certainly Roger Moore's strongest intro scene. Casino Royale - Top tier. Real good. The closest Bond movie to being a actual good movie since the Sean Connery era. I prefer my James Bond movies more on the Austin Powers end of things, but this one works. Also Daniel Craig is the hottest James Bond. Quantum Of Solace - Oh so dumb, but I think the action pieces are great. And I even like the editing! Skyfall - I hesitate to even share my trollish take because I know it will provoke many, but reactions aren't monolithic and for me this isn't a great movie. I think it's a good movie filled with good performances, great action and gorgeous photography from ya boi Deakins, but...James Bond is a dumb dumb DUMB character and attempts to lend depth to this one dimensional relic don't appeal to me. James Bond movies are predicated on contrivance and this movie tries to lend grounding and realism to the whole affair, but it doesn't land for me. I loved this one in the theater and have enjoyed subsequent viewings, but as time goes I find myself liking it less and less. I'm looking forward to No Time To Die, and the early movies are an indelible part of my childhood, but I wouldn't be sad to see this franchise put to pasture.
I actually watch it decently often if I'm putting a Bond movie on. without spoiling, there's some things I don't like, but idk I still have a good time with it. don't get the "worst Bond" hate it seems to get
It's unwarranted imo. It has a lot of problems but it might have the best beginning to a Bond movie and the score is fabulous.
It's the first mediocre Bond movie that the internet was able to dissect in full, which is how it went from "mediocre" to "worst thing ever".
There’s a bottom tier but I don’t think there’s really any one worst bond movie. There’s great elements of Die Another Another Day, Specte, Quantum, View To A Kill, Diamonds Are Forever etc
QoS is much worse overall than Spectre, despite having some good stuff in it. But I wouldn't say I hate any of Craig's movies. None of them are anywhere near as egregiously bad as, like, Die Another Day.
yeah I can honestly say there's not a single bond movie I hate. I enjoy and adore them all for how good, bad, fun, weird they may be. think it's part of what goes along with being a Bond fan. whereas general audiences may have a different approach or perspective
I’m rewatching diamonds are forever and it might be one of my favorites. It’s an insane and mostly bad movie but it’s so much fun and there are so many good lines.
Watched Casino Royale for the first time last night. Really enjoyed it. Excited to watch the rest of Craig's films. I know it's apparently an unpopular opinion but my wife loves QoS and is really excited to watch it today haha.
I think you're thinking of Die Another Day (it's in an ice sheet, not a desert, though). QoS is the one that I've now watched at least three times and I still can't tell you the plot.
Doing a rewatch of the Craig films, just finished Casino. I think Casino is my favorite. It’s so freaking good. And eva green . starting quantum now, cannot remember the last time i watched/attempted to watch this one.
I actually almost like Quantum of Solace. Overall, I’d say it was just too short. It needed something more to it. I actually also think Casino Royale was slightly too long, but that often seems to just be me. If they balanced the two a little bit more they’d be perfect.
If you all want a great espionage/spy TV series to watch, check out the French show The Bureau, available on iTunes and Amazon. I just finished binge watching through season 3; absolutely incredible. It's very realistic, so all the gadgets and spy techniques they use seem like ones that are actually used in the field in real life. Being a huge James Bond fan myself, this series was right up my ally, and I think it will for you all too.
Trailer for season 2 is in French, but you'll get subtitles when you watch it; good little taste of what you'll see
