Edgar Wright won’t be doing it. Why would you fire a director with a distinct auteur sensibility and then hire another director with a distinct auteur sensibility?
In the UK newspapers the rumour is that they didn’t like that Boyle wanted to focus on current political tensions with Russia and the UK. He also wanted to cast polish actor Tomasz Kot as the main Russian villain.
And the Cornetto trilogy. He definitely has a unique style that's not really seen in a lot of mainstream/blockbuster movies.
I love Baby Driver... Edgar Wright is probably my favorite filmmaker. My point is that it’s unlikely they would fire someone with a distinct personal style over creative differences just to then hire another director with a distinct personal style. They aren’t going to hire someone they may have “creative differences” with again. Especially since Wright has already walked away from a project due to the same issue. I just don’t see it happening. I wasn’t suggesting they shouldn’t do it.
How the fuck is Danny Boyle too risky a choice and Cary is not? I don’t care. This made me audibly gasp when I saw it this morning. Amaaaaaaazing decision.
Like others have mentioned, I feel like A) Fukunaga is consciously being careful right now to avoid being labelled "difficult" and B) the producers were probably very careful ahead of this announcement to avoid further embarrassment.
perhaps, but I read an article a bit back, wish I remembered where haha, but it was about how like the summer blockbuster era is over and that blockbusters are just a year round thing now.
