Wait, Daniel Craig is no longer going to be Bond one last time? I do like the sound of Idris Elba though. Idris Elba James Bond - James Bond Producers Are Leaning Toward Idris Elba As the Next 007
I assume it means Elba could replace Craig after Craig finishes wrapping up Danny Boyle's movie next year. Pretty sure Craig is doing one more.
Craig is definitely contracted for one more. We're at least 4-5 years from the casting of the next Bond. I wouldn't put much stock in any of these rumors.
Why is that a problem? Daniel Craig is 50 now and still kicks ass. Tom Cruise releases a new Mission: Impossible movies every three years or so and he's even older and blow these movies away.
They'll want someone they can use for 10-15 years, based on previous hires. Craig is 50 now, but he was 37 when they cast him. Elba would probably be 47-48 when they cast and it takes them 2-3 years to make a Bond movie. Not saying it definitely won't happen, but I would not bet on it.
Roger Moore was 46 when he was cast. After the “young” Daniel Craig years, I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to go down the “old, grizzled, beaten” Bond route.
Yeah, grizzled is the best word for what I was thinking. I don't think it would be a problem for Elba to play him at all. It would be interesting to have Bond movies that aren't over-the-top action. A suave, calm and collected mystery/spy thriller would be better than just another action flick.
I think he was 44 when they actually cast him, and it definitely didn’t take as long for them to make these back then. That said, grizzled old Bond could be interesting.
46 when he was cast and stayed in the role wayyyyy too long haha. I enjoy Roger Moore but he looks horrible in View to a Kill and it bums me out that he got most of the Ian Fleming novels. as for Idris Elba, I think he's great, I don't love him as much as others do, but if he was 10 years younger I'd entertain it. I'm just over the "old dog" bond and would like a mid 30's one where I can get a solid 5 movies out of him before he's too old. edit: also, can we let the "who's playing bond" talk rest till after Daniel Craig's last movie is out?? hasn't even started filming! haha
I mean... kind of, but not really. We got his beginning with Casino Royale, then we got Quantum which is Casino 1.5, but then Skyfall when you look at it, really feels like a Bond at the end of his career. more than anything, stop making him go rogue for a few movies haha. Just give him missions and have him go on them. idk, i'll always go see bond movies and i'll always love them each for different reasons. I also wouldn't mind seeing him work with some other 00's, them doing period movies instead of always modern. right now I'm just excited to see what Danny Boyle does and don't really care who's taking over after yet. only concept I don't really get is the idea of the gender swap, I'd rather a new badass female role be written instead of a simple gender swap. I'd say give me a Velvet movie but that's already becoming a tv show.
I would definitely be down for a mystery spy thriller, hell give me an entire movie in the vain of the black and white casino royale opening! haha
Did you see Atomic Blonde in theaters? The "Bond" name will get people into theaters, and that matters, a lot.
I did actually see it in theatres. and i know the logic behind doing it, but i also think it's more important to create new and exciting characters. will they all catch on? no, but that shouldn't halt studios from trying either.
