Nirvana was an American rock band formed by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era. Though the band dissolved in 1994, their music continues to maintain a popular following and to inspire and influence modern rock and roll culture. Cant believe we dont have a thread for this massively important band. In Utero could well be the best album of the 90s.
I haven't listened to a full Nirvana album since the tenth grade (which wasn't that long ago admittedly) but they're a band I get into reading a lot about every few months or so. I read Charles Cross's biography about Kurt last year and went on a kick of live and Kurt solo stuff for a while there. Lots of great stuff to dig into despite only having the three LPs, and it's definitely going to be a trip when I revisit those
Nirvanas In Utero, Joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures, and Radioheads Kid A are 3 great, interesting rock albums to play during fall weather.
I almost long for the days of living in a place with consistent fall weather so I can vibe more with those types of albums. Almost.
fall lasts about a month in North Carolina then its just mild for a bit then its cold af for like two months then its back to the blazing heat. but its nice while it lasts
Nirvana did a lot for me in opening up my musical doors. I used to hate metal and a lot of more aggressive punk bands but then 11-year-old me heard "Negative Creep" and it just rocked my world. Still one of my favorite Nirvana songs. It's funny that Nirvana was seen as like an anti-metal/shred movement but it got me into so many bands like that haha. I wish there were more albums like In Utero.
In Utero is their best imo, at least my favorite. I bought Nevermind on CD not long after I bought my first CDs and god I was underwhelmed by it. There was a lot of hype there (I might've been like twelve or smth) and I didn't get it. In retrospect I think it's p much a perfect album even if it's not my favorite. Nevermind is a perfect storm of their influences melding on a song by song basis. On some days I like it as much as In Utero.
Genuinely think Nevermind is perfect to the point of innocuously being overlooked as so. It's the weirdest kind of grower. Endlessly ripped off so it felt familiar on my very first listen, but at the end of the day, they did it better than the vast majority of their acolytes
