I thought shit was getting real where I was in DQ XI, then I came in this thread.

 

The europeans are hard to please evidently

 

thankfully you barely ever need the hub world and once you've visited a place it's enough to use the zoom menu

even if I think DQ is charming as hell and I appreciate the nuance in the story, I think personally I will stick to mechanically more interesting games in the future.

honestly and I know I'll get a lot of shit for this but that thread has become hostile to a point where it's honestly no more fun to read it, and I am sad to say I'm not w/o fault

 

Yeah see I love traditional simple turn-based combat and I know that's a niche thing. Over complicated rpg battle systems I just dont enjoy sometimes. I really had trouble getting into Ni-No-Kunis battle system. Not sayin Ni No Kuni is complicated, its just not conventional.

Im so gonna buy The Alliance Alive soon that looks pretty simple lol.

I think the combat in DQ is good as usual. They could have updated the presentation of the 2D combat a little more.

 

can you give me a tl;dr of that battle system's intricacies versus something more traditional?

I've come to realise that Pokemon and Xenoblade are really the perfect JRPG franchises

 

Xenoblade 2, just from a mechanical perspective, is honestly one of the sickest games I've ever played and I'm extremely keen to play that remake.

 

I think the remakes mechanics are more turn based? Thats what anthony told me I think

 

I just looked at a video of the Wii version and it looks EXTREMELY similar

 

It is really amazing in that regard. It feels so good. In terms of mechanics I also recommend Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It’s turn based but the combat feels really good, in a way that’s similar to Xenoblade. Xenobladde Chronicles X is amazing too, if you haven’t played it and have a WiiU around.
