There are some significant updates to those new Switch model rumors:

1. The cheaper model (think 2DS to 3DS) is happening soon, but it will still be dockable.

2. The fancier model is not real. What those rumors referred to is actually the next Nintendo console, which is a Switch-like, a Switch 2 you might say. Like the 3DS was for the DS, NOT like the New 3DS was for the 3DS. This one is in development, but several years away.

These are Nikkei level rumors, not random websites and/or forums. The usually get it right becaue they reliable sources. The reason we were misinformed previously was actually mistranslations by English sites.

There are definitely people who would benefit from a cheaper switch lol

People with kids for example

 

Kids and (often Japanese) gamers who only ever bought Nintendo handhelds, mostly to play Pokemon and Animal Crossing. Those are huge markets for Nintendo traditionally that aren’t being served as well by the current Switch as they were by the previous handhelds.

I found Smash Brothers to be enjoyable as long as you're playing with someone that's also on the weeds. I'm sure Yoshi's Crafted World would probably be the best though.

 

The Switch is already about to pass PS4's lifetime sales in Japan so it's selling well over there. I just don't see the point in making a cheaper model because the point of Switch is to either dock it and use the joycons to play on the tv, or place the joycons on and play it handheld. If you can't take the joycons off the cheap model then what's the point in even docking it since you'll have to buy another controller?

 

I imagine the detachable joycons with young kids being a nightmare, a sturdier, cheap model like the OG 2DS makes a lot of sense for kids

 

it makes sense for Nintendo to hold off on an up-model. with PS5/XB? likely to hit somewhere around $500, a timely price drop to $250 would leave them able to market their top experience as costing half as much as the competition. obv the Switch won't scratch that itch for a lot of adult gamers with disposable income but it may speak volumes to parents who want to get their kid a console for Christmas and for the price of a PS5 can get their kid a Switch and a couple of the hottest newest games for it. throw in an additional cheaper SKU on top of that and it's a big value proposition.

 

I just want switch 2 to have a head mount so i can game where ever with the switch screen attaced to my head in front of my eyes.
