I had thought it was previously stated this would focus on hardware only and not games

 

That was a fake rumor going around. Nintendo also announced a treehouse event for this Thursday and Friday to play Switch 2 games. They’re definitely showing games during the direct

 

yeah, i don't think we're walking away without at least some games

 

I feel like this was in reference to that teaser video from earlier in the year, but right now I can't find anything that confirms or denies this.

 

I'm definitely hoping for a new 3D Mario at launch, something that builds off of Bowser's Fury, or Odyssey 2. I'll be watching the whole presentation twice. Once live, then at night with my kid when he gets home from school.

There's no way they spend 60 minutes just talking about hardware features. There will 100% be games, especially if preorders open tomorrow, too.

MK9 is a given.

I'm going to assume/hope they'll tell us more about how our Switch library will behave on Switch 2 (hopefully no need to remaster/upgrade path but free patches). I really want TOTK at 1080/60 DLSS'd to 4k.

and I also think we're way past due for a new 3D Mario. Like, for the holidays.

 

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is a safe bet as well

 

I dunno, will they really spend time talking about third party releases? Maybe a quick highlight reel or something.

 

Yeah I expect to be in a montage just highlighting 3rd party titles

 

So is April 9th still a safe bet for Switch 2 preorders? Really hoping they don't actually drop tomorrow.

 

No way they're not announcing at least launch titles.

The first ever Switch Direct in 2017 after going over hardware they announced 1 2 Switch, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Octopath, Xenoblade 2, Skyrim port, and ended it with a first look a BOTW on Switch gameplay footage.

 

My biggest wildcard probably not happening prediction: Gamecube and Dreamcast for NSO exclusively on Switch 2.

 

GCN emulation, while good for people that know what emulation is, is not good enough for them to use it for NSO I think, and they wouldn't port games for NSO, so I personally don't think that is happening for now.

Also there's the whole analogue trigger problem, Sunshine on Switch was suboptimal (though of course not every GCN game used them in the same way).

• Reveal of design of new pro controller
• New Mario Kart as the big first party launch title

• Metroid Prime Beyond upscaled 4K footage
• BOTW upscaled 4K footage. He thinks them showing off last gen's Zelda upscaled will be the sole LoZ rep this direct
• next gen mainline 3D Mario
• A smaller scale first party game that heavily utilizes the new mouse control function. Either Wario Ware, Mario Paint, or a completely new IP.

Third party games he thinks are locks

• FF 7 Remake port
• Elden Ring port
• Some kind of CoD game for Switch

Not so likely wildcard guesses

• New Animal Crossing game announcement teaser
• Miyamoto's final game as his swan song
• A new non-SSB Sakurai game
• A new Starfox game
• A new Sim City that heavily utilizes the mouse function
• A new mainline 3D DK game
• A new feature or new platform for NSO
• Kid Icarus Uprising HD utilizing the mouse control
• Splatoon 4 announcement teaser
• A Halo collection port
• A new Monolith Soft IP
• A BG3 port taking advantage of mouse controls
• Some kind of Nintendo Music app integration where you can pick your home screen music from your phone
• A new mainline Fire Emblem along the lines of Three Houses

 

When I learned about the new mouse gimmick a BG3 port for Nintendo was the first thing I thought of. I dunno if we'll see it today but it'll certainly be a great one to show that function off .
