Wait, are you saying go back and watch The Thing From Another World (1951)? Because John Carpenter's The Thing is in fact a remake, so you kinda proved the point of what value there is in remaking things
I think the most obvious reason for the remake is to also introduce the game to the younger/modern gamers that were introduced to the series by BotW and TotK. The Zelda franchise is a lot bigger now than it was in 1998 as those 2 games have sold over 55+ million copies alone and make up around half of the total copies sold for the entire franchise lol Remake what is considered the greatest Zelda game by many so the newer fans can experience it with modern tech (while also showing off the power of the Switch 2). I’m curious how fans of Zelda that have only played BotW/TotK will react to a linear style Zelda game like OoT.
some of y'all will literally complain about anything. unless you buy a used copy for any of the systems it was released on (assuming you have those consoles to begin with, consoles they don't even manufacture anymore) or play the emulated version on NSO (a service not all players will pay for, and a version complete with the problems of the original release), there's currently no legal way to play OOT today. if they're gonna make their most critically-revered game more widely available again, it makes sense to enhance/remake it to take advantage of their premiere console's technical and graphical capabilities. they did the same thing with Link's Awakening and it did pretty well, from what i remember. i'm sure Nintendo knows not everyone will be on board with this remake, and that's okay. if it's not for you, just move on, go play the versions you prefer, and let folks who are more interested/newer gamers check it out. i understand the hesitation to jump on board, and i get just as annoyed by remakes, sequels, and reboots in other forms of media, but unlike some entertainment companies, i don't think remaking things isn't Nintendo's MO compared to releasing new ones. it'll make them money, but it's not the same soulless endeavor as Disney remaking all their old animated movies in live-action, especially given that the Zelda franchise is still churning out new games every few years (the one big reason i can see folks getting upset about a StarFox remake over a new title, and even then, there are valid reasons to revisit that title). the old versions aren't going away, and there's still a possibility that the remake might impress you.
How is no one talking about Pokopia getting DLC? Paying for the dlc months before it comes out is insane but I'm so glad it has stuff coming out. One of the best games recently.
My thing with remakes is - I don’t care remake anything as long as the original version is still accessible.
When did everyone first play OoT? I didn’t play it until 2007. I beat twilight princess on Wii and liked it so much that I bought OoT on the Wii virtual console. Didn’t finish it until 2014 though. I couldn’t solve the water temple and legit didn’t pick the game back up for 7 years. Ironic that 7 years is also the gap between young link and adult link in the story.
Played the Starfox demo. It's the training mission and Meteo. Only nitpick is the aiming is a little weird because your Arwing sorta blocks your view of enemies directly in front of you. i don't remember that from the original. The camera setup is a little different. The controls are so smooth. It looks beautiful. The cutscenes are fun. The training mode was so much cooler than the original.
We weren't allowed to have a gaming system until way after the 64 came out, so this will be my first time playing Starfox, believe it or not.
BOTW was my first Zelda, so i've been wanting to play OOT all the way through. attempted it through N64 NSO once and found it to be super clunky. my partner has that one GameCube collection with it, Majora's Mask, some 2D games, and i think the 64DD levels, and he's wanted me to try it out that way. i might do so soon if it's much less clunky than navigating NSO, then attempt the remake when it releases.
OOT looks killer. Loved the tapestry and audio and the graphics look about as good as a Nintendo game ever has. I appreciate that they’re swinging for the fences with a whole new art style. I played the N64 version as a kid and probably got through 80% of the ds version but have never played it all the way through. Having played wind waker for the first time this year and thoroughly enjoying it, I’m psyched for this release.
Watched my dad play it around release, played through for the first time myself with the GameCube Master Quest version I think?
Another slight nitpick of Starfox from what I played (training and both paths of Meteo): The voice acting in a lot of the in game parts was underwhelming. A lot of the same lines, but there was a certain cartoony over the topness to the line reads in the original that they really tone down here.
