just showed up. word of warning to anyone intending to use the cardboard model, it's a snug fit for both the Switch 1 and Switch 2. there are strips of foam on the top, bottom, and back of the slot you insert it into that create a gap where the device isn't truly touching the paper itself, but screen protector or not, your console will probably have a little bit of dust on the screen upon removing it. another vital tip: insert your console from the left side instead of the right. i think it has to do with the procedure for adjusting the headset for the Switch 1, but there's a little extra bit of cardboard on the top left side that might give you trouble if you insert it from the right.
tested out the Virtual Boy app for a few minutes. overall, a solid experience, but i only tried two games (Wario Land and 3D Tetris). cardboard model isn't uncomfortable in the slightest, and once you adjust the IPS to your liking (my eyes feel comfortable at a value of -1), the effect is pretty fun. definitely need to get a screen protector though if i end up playing more, because there were a good amount of fingerprints and dust on my screen. upon startup, if you start the app docked, it'll tell you that TV mode isn't supported and that you need to remove the console. once doing so (or assuming you always play undocked), you'll get a black screen prompting you to insert it in the headset. it's a manual alignment with the cardboard model, but once you're set, it'll have you press A to take you into the home screen menu. from there, it works the same as any other NSO app, although holding down the right thumbstick will let you adjust IPS at any time, and on the IPS adjust screen, you can adjust the screen size a bit too (although you can realistically only decrease the size more than you can increase it). doesn't appear to be GameChat support or a battery life indicator, idk about screenshots. to exit, you'll hit the home button, pull the console out of your accessory, and manually hit the "Close" button with your fingers before redocking. i think @Penlab asked about how the app looked when not docked but outside of the headset, and while it can technically be played without a headset/in tabletop mode, the view is incredibly tiny. the only auto recognition the app has is detecting whether or not you're docked. it's up to you to make sure that you have it in a headset before actually trying it out.
this is about how big it'll appear on the screen before putting it in the headset. it looks good when using the headset, but when removed, not as much.
FUCK! I was afraid of this. Oh well, I guess it's back to emulation for me. I hope someone finds a way to dump the new games when they drop.
yeah, i really wish they'd add a TV/standard viewing mode. it would make it feel less gimmicky (even though the console itself was pretty much a gimmick).
MKW is good, but it just could be so much better. I think 8 was the better game out of the gate and especially so w the real DLC (have not played many of the phone tracks), but the foundation is there for World to blow it out of the water if they go for it. No disagreement from me that the new mechanics and knockout mode are as good as the series has ever been. Obvious must haves: -traditional 3 lap race option for both offline Grand Prix and online play -more characters -new tracks and/or world expansion Things that I’d love but am not optimistic about: -story mode. This is my biggest gripe - the open world is huge and almost awesome, but it feels so underused. The challenges are fun, but feel kind of pointless after a while. Gimme a plot, or bosses, or even just characters who talk to you and give you stuff to do. -car customization options - so silly to get rid of this -n64 battle mode rules and that kind of arena -DLC tracks from 8 deluxe, would love to play with these graphics and mechanics There are elements of it that are insanely high quality, it just kind of feels like half a game.
Agree with every word of this, and it's why I've found it hard to pick up MKW after the initial launch. The 3 lap race options is the main one though. I cannot believe it got through testing without that being brought up. I like a long single lap track as much as the next guy, but the balance has shifted too much in the wrong direction.
it was a great idea as evidenced by how well it works in knockout mode, but the start and stop of traditional GP really just emphasizes how boring those sections are compared to a well designed track.
A story mode of doing a world tour grand race seems like a big whiff. Would have loved cut scenes and funny moments.
oh shit! didn't expect it would "leak" from the eShop itself, lol they didn't think anyone'd scroll that far? although, $20 is kinda...
I think if they confirmed this ahead of the 27th, that something bigger will be announced on the 27th. I’d love a classic collection that includes DS games I never got to play.
I think the announcement came early because the eshop listing went up. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re announcing gen 10
Actually they're going to do a big reveal where it shows the number 10 and then the 0 gets crossed out and it will be a reboot of gen 1 again
