Been playing MP4 for a week now. It is underwhelming me. Given all the production delays and shit, I actually thought I'd be playing Nintendo's newest masterpiece. This certainly falls short of that experience. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't feel like a Retro/Nintendo game. It feels like they handed their IP to a 2nd rate developer and crammed a bunch of last minute filler shit in-between some nice boss battles. I'd honestly never recommend this entry in the series to someone who is new to the franchise. MP1 and Dread absolutely bury this game. This one is on par with Other M. At least Other M kinda let me know it was gonna be different and weird.
So of course against my better judgement I ended up getting Metroid Prime 4, as there was no way I wasn't going to see for myself how/if the game shapes up. And let me say, the game makes one heck of a first impression. The first mission and boss fight were cool, and the second area, the one with the forest, has lush vegetation and pretty cool architecture. And you know what, Miles? In any other game, this would've been a total non-issue. I don't think he's irritating, but if deep down you don't feel like his inclusion here isn't at least partially misguided you and I have very different opinions on what we want out of a Metroid Prime game. That said the power ups you get here are super cool and the boss fight at the end was a banger. After that, it all falls apart. Volt forge was total dogshit, just an absolute stinker of a dungeon with god-awful boss fights. The bike... is fine but again, see above. (even though I do appreciate the mechanical depths they have given it). The main enemies you fight here are bullet sponges without any hit registration, the puzzles are brain dead, the interconnectedness of the level design (not to mention the world) is simply non-existent, and worst of all, it's looks drab as fuck. You fight some sort of electrical sphere. It's mid but managable. Sylus shows up, no introduction, immediate boss fight. It's so fucking long and boring as hell. A few minutes after that another boss that is an electrical sphere shows up. This one is a little more exciting but still patently boring and overlong. I don't know why people started glazing the graphics of this game as hard as they did. I mean considering the hardware limits of the Switch 1 it's pretty good but if you're wowed by this in the year of our lord 2025 I have a collection of keys I can jingle in front of your face. The art direction oscillates between cool vistas and the drabbest fucking corridors I've seen in 2 console generations. Currently I am in the ice area at the part where I am surrounded by the wolves and I am not sure if the game is more keen to test my patience or my intelligence. Genuinely, I don't know if I have it in me to continue.
https://www.ign.com/articles/official-nitro-deck-2-for-nintendo-switch-2-now-available-for-pre-order Big news that I hadn't seen posted. The first Nitro Deck was the best adapter for Switch, for me.
Finished Windwaker tonight. Incredible game, holds up incredibly well for a 20 year old game. Psyched to get to Tears. Planning on getting to all the other 3d games available on switch. I’d love them to put the windwaker and twilight had rereleases on one release at some point. I didn’t have the patience to complete most games as a kid, this was super rad.
That post reminded me I need to finish Wind Waker on switch online. I’m like 70% done but stopped playing a few months ago when I started another game
Metroid Prime 4 late game spoiler reaction I hate this final fight. The NPC’s have started increasingly bothering me towards the end, and having to keep them alive during the final fight is just bullshit.
Everyone gripes about the triforce quest, I think it was fun to re explore the land right before the end. Felt a lot more like an open world to me. It’s pretty repetitive and some of the parts feel impossible without finding a walkthrough online, but overall I loved it. Would 100% grab the HD copy if it releases on switch.
