Starting a new job next month that pays pretty decent. Might finally be able to get a Switch 2 by end of 2025. If I get one I want to wait till I can go all in and just get everything. At least one Switch 2 pro controller. A camera. Mario Kart, DK, and Prime 4 (maybe Air Riders I dunno yet). Paid updates on all my Switch 1 games that require it.
heard mixed things about the upgrade. general consensus is that it's too limited in content and unique functionality for its $20 price point. https://www.reddit.com/r/MARIOPARTY...thing_you_need_to_know_about_jamboree_switch/
Fwiw, if you don't care about the controller not waking the console, the Switch 1 Pro Controller and 8bitdo Ultimate controllers are just as good imo. Unless you want paddles, but the 8bitdo Ultimate has those, too.
It's such a big improvement over S/V and Arceus. The only valid complaints is the over all area is kind of small and flat textures on buildings, but the character models and Pokemon look much better so I don't really care about the latter
I just think that people need to understand that the Switch (2) is also a handheld, and in Japan it is a handheld first, and it will always have what are essentially handheld games, and Pokemon will always be that and have budgets that correspond to that
I mean, every Switch game is a handheld game so I'm not quite sure I understand that argument. It's priced the same as any other AAA game
Yeah, that sounds like a weird argument to make. It being a handheld system has absolutely no bearing on the budget or the end result, or @Lori wouldn't keep making posts about how beautiful Switch 1 games look.
I think handheld-first series do not need to transition into being console-first series simply because they are on Switch. Also yes Pokemon is 70 but Mario Kart is 80. Over here at least that was about the difference between 3DS and WiiU games.
Yes but that Mario Kart price is insane haha. DK Bananza is $70 and in a completely different league from Pokemon (and, tbh, Mario Kart, too) I like Pokemon and think it's a fun game, but I still don't really excuse Gamefreak's laziness
Let me rephrase: I think expecting all their former handheld franchises to align with their former console franchises is not gonna make you happy because it is not gonna happen, and I personally think that is fine. They also kind of still make “handheld Zeldas” next to the “console Zeldas”.
Idk I think personally think that the dollar a minute ratio is probably better for Pokemon if you really get into it. I don’t think graphics = price.
I don't agree that there's such a thing as "handheld-first" that requires a game to be under a certain budget. If there's a budget cap for a Pokémon game, it's likely to maximize profitability since the series has a huge installed fanbase that will buy new entries regardless of their aesthetics. This helps achieve a quick turnaround so more entries can be rolled out at a faster pace. It's got nothing to do with portability or some perception of what a handheld game should look like. That feels like you're making a connection that isn't there.
I was talking about game play and physics just as much as graphics tbf haha I don't really care much about graphics either. But, hey, I still enjoy both games!
You’re sort of right, but I also think that Pokemon was always predominantly a handheld franchise precisely because it allowed them to make more profitable games.
If it makes you happier call it AAA and AA (historically often sold at the same price) or whatever, I just think console and handheld makes more sense with certain franchises
This is a misrepresentation of why that is though. It's not because of handheld vs console, it's about meeting the expectations of what the tech can do. Clearly there are exceptions, like Four Swords on the GameCube or the OOT and MM remakes on 3DS. Yes, I will concede that the limitations of a handheld made it a more natural fit for 2D experiences, but clearly Nintendo has no problem catering to both audiences on the Switch now that it has the best of both worlds. I don't mind the argument you're making, I just think the way you're framing it is inaccurate.
