I am kinda annoyed with how many switch 2 are going digital only, with a physical copy just containing a code. *cough*Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4*cough* That game is nearly 40 GB. Madden NFL is going to be around 50 GB. I made have to get a 1 TB express card tbh
Pretty sure the cartridge is the license, it’s not a one time-use, you can sell and trade them etc. For all intents and purposes they are physical games, except that the don’t actually carry anything of the game. It’s really not that far off from all the physical games out there that require a day one patch to be actually playable.
On the Pro Skater 3+4 box for switch 2 is says “full game download inside (game card not included)” So I think it may just be a piece of paper in the case, not even a key card
I have no experience with this as I've been buying strictly digital for a long time now. So the cartridge prompts the download of the game? That's how that works?
What's even the point? This feels worse than just a code because you still run the risk of the game not existing in the future and there's a physical product that becomes a paperweight.
Just realized I’m pretty sure I wiped my island in New Horizons because I traded in my switch lite and didn’t transfer any data
Yeah it’s more of a reminder to myself but I never listen. I haven’t touched it in years though and it might be good to just restart anyways
Lol I did that when I system transferred from my Lite to my OLED. If it was coming from your Lite there was apparently something specific you had to do anyways, it wouldn't go over in a transfer
Yeah I'm pretty sure I heard the BOTW Switch 2 edition cartridge needs a day 1 patch to even start up? Kind of ridiculous
Tbh I think it's kind of nice so you at least have an option to sell it or share with friends. Obviously not ideal, but it's how a lot of PS5 games already operate. My Spider-Man Miles Morales disc still required a massive download to play it
Man, I get that the first two games were much older, but considering how much they modernized the remaster, I don't get how 3 + 4 could be that much larger. Unless it's just way less optimized for Switch 2
Most games on all consoles, has been that way for like 10 years if not more, in fact Nintendo games are usually more complete on the disc/cartridge than others
Off-topic with all the Switch 2 stuff happening but I ended up playing both Outer Wilds and Death’s Door. Loved Death’s Door, a bit more iffy on Outer Wilds. Death’s Door was so much fun. Gorgeous visuals, PERFECT soundtrack, fun and creative boss fights, and overall just felt very satisfying to explore. While I agree calling it “similar to Tunic” may give people an impossible expectation, I think they’re more similar than different. And I mean that even beyond the general Zeldalike genre (i.e. I think Tunic and DD have way more in common with each other than with any Zelda). Tunic is one of my favorite games of all time, and while this definitely didn’t have the same degree of discovery and hidden secrets, it overall scratched a lot of the same itches. Outer Wilds is a weird one for me. Super unique, very intricately thought out, and very cool story. But god, it was SO frustrating. So many puzzles felt like I knew what to do but was impeded by something either annoyingly subtle or outright deceptive in the game design. And in many of those cases, the punishment for botching some tiny detail is up to 10 minutes of backtracking and repetition for each subsequent attempt. I felt like it — pretty ironically — completely does not respect your time. Not sure I’ve ever felt so strongly that I was fighting against a game before. Definitely cool, but I’m not sure I can really say I enjoyed it. (I know this is an unpopular take)
I went with the official Nintendo one that carries everything. It's a bit bulky and expensive but it definitely beats my old method of throwing all of my Switch stuff in a bag
