Don't lie to us, there are no dungeons and someone noticed some texture pop-in that one time, we know it's shit

To be clear, there are definitely valid criticisms to make here, the most valid one in my opinion being that it does appear that they lied to us about making all new models and animations in exchange for not having the National Dex, but things like minor technical hiccups and the lack of the National Dex in and of themselves are not the world-ending catastrophes they're being made out to be.

 

Like it's possible to really love the game with also acknowledging that it isn't perfect lol

 

As it is with anything that one loves. This thing where there are only the extremes of like it's either a 10/10 and flawless or it's hot trash garbage is so exhausting. Neckbeard dorks are the worst.

 

All I know to be definitively true beyond a shadow of a doubt are the following:

1. I will be making all of the curry tomorrow.



2. I will one day soon capture the Pokémon version of Sif from Dark Souls and use it to make other Pokémon faint so damn hard.

 

mom+pop stores in NYC break dates on a regular basis. it let's them be competitive with the big guys. happy to support these gems.

the game is actually really pretty in it's own Nintendo way, everything looks incredible on the big screen. first one since Sapphire, played for about 5 hours last night AMA.

 

It was so obvious that they were lying from day one, but yeah, I’ll still judge the game on its own merrits

 

I'm surprised Nintendo doesn't lock you out of playing games before release day

 

Trying to decide if I should go at midnight tonight or just wait until tomorrow. On the one hand, I'll be up anyway (I always am), and that way I won't have to waste any potential play time tomorrow after work going to pick it up. On the other hand, I'm a lazy boi.

the texture issues are very valid from what ive seen. some shots of wild area textures look like the DQVIII 3DS port. complaints of textures, animations, and performance have followed the series since X and Y and in some cases even before. there are frame drops during battles with four models rendered on screen and no background. it's the kind of stuff no other cornerstone dev would get away with. let's not dismiss everything said negatively because a very small, vocal corner of the internet is shitting on all of it. that's as annoying as Dexit.

Those are definitely valid criticisms, but I guess what I take issue with is how they're being treated by the Dexit crowd as being unique to this game. And I'm not trying to make the argument that it's fine because everyone does it, I'm just saying that sloppy technical issues is an industry-wide problem at present and I'm sure that a ton, if not all, of those people's favorite games of this year have them as well. Just be consistent, is all. If it's really as catastrophic of an issue when Pokémon does it, then why aren't we making as big a deal about it when any other games do it?

 

I guess I’m too optimistic and giving them too much benefit of the doubt, but like, this is their first foray into a full scale Pokémon game on the switch, I kind of figured there would be some issues transitioning from strictly handheld systems. They’ll learn from this game and improve

 

i think without Dexit we would see the same criticisms. there were a ton of people criticizing it after the initial Direct and with subsequent demo footage. X/Y, S/M, ORAS, and USUM all came out with the exact frame issues as X and Y did initially. there was no improvement. that was a big sticking point for people. now we are on the switch with more horsepower and only having to render one image and it's still present. i think bigger games get less flack for similar issues because in general they dwarf Pokemon in scope and vision. games like Bloodborne dont run necessarily well but they're also squeezing all the juice out of the hardware. SwSh cant keep constant frames with four total models on screen. models that are copy pasted from games that were on dramatically less powerful hardware.

it just shows a lack of commitment to quality to me. it wont impede my enjoyment one bit, but it's there

this is genuinely what ive seen said every year since X and Y though and i mean no shade. it's just after six years my optimism has dwindled. i love this series more than any other, but i want it to grow and improve as well
