from my experience, the DQ series is an extremely beginner-friendly franchise for a newcomer to JRPGs.

 

This DQ also gets right into a story and has a TON of charm in it, my best tip is right when you start, go to the battle settings and set the speed to 'ultra-fast' i imagine most people like like turn-based because of the down time in battles, this eliminates most of that/

I also turned off the free movement ring thing in a battle and have it set to the standard cinematic. embarrassed to say I tried dodging too many times before realizing I was a fool.

I’m only in the sewers in Ni No Kuni and I never want to stop playing this masterpiece of a game.

 

Just finished LA. Traditional, 2D Zelda games are a relic of the past, but still so amazing. If it came out new today it would still be a great game.

 

I also finished LA and it made me realize how underwhelming the divine beasts were. I really hope the BOTW 2 they go back to the traditional dungeon style for the beasts. Now on to DQ 11 even though I have FE on the back burner for no good reason

 

Both are good starting points. XC2’s combat is more MMO-like (and really not that complicated) and DQ’s is turn-based.

 

I also changed it. The free movement option is very odd.

 

XC2 is the goat

 

Top 3 JRPGs this gen are Persona 5, DQXI and XC2

 

That at least sounds almost inarguable

 

Unless we count the 3DS, which we probably should, which again proves that the concept of generations has been dubious for a while

 

I always count 3DS as this gen

 

For a top 5 I'd include ORAS and three houses

 

I think XY are better than ORAS specifically because of the roller blades, haha.

Also I’d probably put some of the 3DS FE games above TH. Maybe.

 

I love both

I hardly ever put Pokémon games in my best lists because I just adore that series like nothing else. Like if I did my literal fave games list half of it would be Pokémon, so I often just leave them out

 

The best JRPG of 2019 will be Modern Warfare

Can’t wait to play 1/3 of that game next year and then wait for 3 more years to play the next third.
