Yeah Super Mario Party is a boat load of fun despite clearly lacking some features that would make it even better.

Mario Party is a lot of RNG but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. especially with bonus stars and such for most games won, most coins obtained etc. there are some bullshit pure luck minigames but it is not the majority and i wish you could customize which minigames appear. other than that most of the randomness lies in where you need to go and the luck of the dice, which is no more random than most tabletop games.

Yeah, it's okay. Fun with friends but not super replayable like the original 3 on 64 were.

No, it's worse than people make it out to be. Nintendo party games have a built in system that acts as a fail-safe for people who are losing/in last place. It's not complete RNG which makes it worse.

Here's an example: you are in first place with 5 stars, 2nd has 2 stars, 3rd has 3 stars and 4th has 1 star. You get to the last five turns in the game and the game kicks on the fail-safe. The next two turns, the person in fourth lands on a space that steals a star from 1st and then gets a hidden block, then they are up to 3 and you have 3 and then the game ends and they win a bonus star that puts them in 1st and they win. This legitimately happened to me a month ago. The computer was completely last and totally behind, but it gave them an edge that ISN'T RNG based. It's terrible game design.

RNG is generally "random number generator" aka randomness

Random Number Generator. An RNG system is any system were random chance is the dominant factor.

    Ahhhh RNG is ruining me

I have hatched around 4 boxes of perfect IV Pokemon this week (not counting the imperfect ones I released) and have 0 shinies (although Pokemon is fake-ish RNG)

People are mad at Kotaku for putting Fire Emblem spoilers in their review, especially because it's early in the article.

Isn’t this rubber banding one of the fundamental pieces of Mario Party though? It seems to me that if people mind that part, they should just finally get the message and not play Mario Party.

This is how I’ve always felt, it’s part of the fun for me. I can see it getting frustrating against CPU opponents but uhhh...don’t play Mario Party if you don’t have friends! It’s not a single player game!

complaining about RNG in Super Mario Party or the franchise in general seems kinda silly. I go in expecting chance to be a large factor as I'm playing it to have fun, not to show off my skills aka how good I can jerk off a joycon

that being said, I've played like 50+ games and not many of 'em have been stolen in the last few turns, winning the mini games still plays a large part in who gets the edge. It's not that much worse then getting blue shelled a bunch

I would love to see improvements in a future entry (more boards...come on) and a pro mode or something that is less rubber band but it's still incredibly fun

Or Nintendo could do better game design and improve their game to be more appeal to a larger audience.

*gamer tells other gamers "right" way to play a game* sounds like you should write for Hard Times.

Two things. 1. Blue shells are pretty dumb but that's dependent on a few things. If you are in first and then you get hit with a blue shell after being in first for three laps only to lose at the last second, that's really dumb. If you are in last and get the blue shell, that's actually a really stupid item because it's not helping you get in first, it's just stopping the person in first from winning, so it's kind of a pointless item in that sense.

    2. I wholeheartedly agree with the pro mode concept. All these games need is a deeper customization option. Allow me to turn off specific items like blue shells or turn off hidden blocks and such. Smash has an absurd level of customization so you'd think they'd totally be understanding of why people want a little more control over their games.

You can't "git gud" is what I'm saying.
