haven't played tangledeep but dead cells is my favorite of the bunch, tight, fun combat, lots of good experimenting with weapon/build synergy and i couldn't stop playing it for weeks after release. into the breach is also pretty excellent, the more puzzle approach to a strategy game is genius, it's all the fun of a SRPG but without the sometimes frustrating randomness. i wanted to like wargroove more than i did as a huge advance wars fan, lots of little nagging QoL issues that dragged the game down, but they're addressing those now so i think i'll like it more after this new patch.

 

not exactly. idk the way the game is balanced changed my exact style of playing. i haven’t gone that deep into it yet, but in AW some COs had weaker unit types (like stronger infrantry, weaker short range vehicles). or a character with huge offense and no defense, so first strike is ridiculous. with wargroove it’s less of that because all units are balanced the same and it’s more about making sure you get crits and the opponent can’t. both still do the rock-paper-scissors. but in AW you can sometimes get away with spamming a particular unit type because it’s a strength of the CO. or spamming cheap to their death units to power up your CO gauge because using CO power boosts all the units’ stats by 10% which is an actual playstyle that people did.

obv i like AW more, but i think Wargroove is different enough which is cool.

another points for wargroove is the custom maps like this one. i played around with it a bit (i used to play around with rpg maker/sc editor/etc too so I’m a bit familiar) and it is pretty deep (with some wishlists like creating custom characters). takes me back to the warcraft/starcraft days haha -

 

@sean_rugy I unlocked a a sword called a 'Frantic Sword' and I love it because you can make it a purple item and make a ridiculously strong tactics build.

 

I think that's my favorite right now. the closest I was to beating the damn thing was using that and just sinking all of my points to tactics. I got the rapier last night and if you like dodging it's good, first attack after a dodge is critical.

 

How often do you forge stuff??

 

as in re-roll the modifiers? almost every time I'm in there haha I'm always of the mindset that the build could be better and more in sync. I spend a TON of gold.

i had one really good run in Dead Cells that i've never managed to live up to again. i actually got all the way to the Hand of the King and had him almost halfway down before dying. had NO idea that was the final boss of the game!! since then i've never managed to make it that far again.
i want to get the last few runes to get the the "levels" (is that the right term) i can't reach yet. need to get the Ram Rune first from the Ossuary, which is a place in which i always die VERY quickly, lol

 

I think i'm on my best dead run ever right now, will report back.

wait, does it always increase your damage taken? sometimes I see a modifier that does that when I add "+" but not always.

 

If you upgrade a the item. Like add a "+" it will increase the damage you take by 25%

I just beat the throne room for the first time!!!!!??

and HELL YEAH! itching to get home.

 

Yeah I didn't realize that at first and would always upgrade then get my ASS handed to me. I try not to go past a total extra 100% damage. And yeah dude that tactical build made me unstoppable, also with the spider rune I got to take a different route through different levels so I actually went a longer route this time which allowed me to pick up a lot more scrolls. That seemed to be the difference maker.
