i have decided i am not getting DQXIS. i just don’t wanna ditch the 30 hours i have in the PS4 version and make a game i’m really enjoying feel like a retread or a chore. it’s a bummer early adopters got the short end of the stick here. Square did not expect the game to sell near as well as it did so you would think they would offer this content to the userbase that made the game a success and justified a definitive Switch release in the first place. i’d pay $20 for a patch easily. a user on Resetera said that Square is “undecided” on whether they’ll do so. makes me think there will be a definitive PS4 version some time after the Switch one. if that happens and old saves are compatible, i’ll gladly pick that up.

I would usually agree but the a Switch version had been announced long before the release on PS4 and 3DS, and Japanese companies are known to throw in extra content depending on the platform. I mean, even the initial versions on 3DS and PS4 were different from each others.

 

didn’t the differences between 3DS and PS4 basically amount to the 2D mode to account for the massive downgrade the 3D visuals had to undergo to run on the hardware? doesn’t feel like the same thing to me. and while there was a Switch port announced, it wasn’t announced as anything like what we are getting, it was cited as taking longer because of the hardware differences iirc. there was a ton of doubt it would get anything special until recently

 

The regular 3DS mode, a polygonal top-down art style in the tradition of previous Dragon Quest games (on DS for example) that you were able to change to a 16bit version on the fly (and not as a compromise), wasn't a downgrade of the PS4 version at all, it was built from the ground up. It followed the same story however. Think Final Fantasy 15 mobile version compared to the PS4/Xbox One version of the game, but better.

What I'm saying is that Japanese companies often include new stuff whenever they release a new version, exclusive or not. It's not an excuse, but I'm not surprised at all.

 

I'm definitely getting DQXI on Switch despite already finishing on PS4 but it's probably my second favourite game this gen at this point

 

that’s pretty cool, i didn’t know that. but it’s still apples to oranges given what i’m talking about, because Switch and PS4 are getting the same core game with different features. i get that it happens with other games but that doesn’t make it any less cool and precedent doesn’t make it any better for me. i’m not like pissed it is just a bummer. there’s no reason for something as simple as music to be relegated to a different console for example.

 

i just have big qualms about replaying a 70 hour game when there are so many other games to play and i have so little time to play them. i’m not taking like a anti-Square stance of anything i just know it’ll wind up being a poor investment for me unfortunately

 

I actually think the music is not their fault, there is very weird licensing problems with DQ music

I haven't bought DQXI yet and it looks like I might as well hold off until the Switch version

 

folks are pointing out that only field and battle music will be orchestrated as per the official statement... two orchestrated tracks and the rest midi, then? i hope one day we figure out wtf happened here lol

 

Nah I get it. Would annoy me if it was most other games.

 

I want to get FFIX but I'm currently playing 3 games and Tetris is distracting me...

 

guess i really gotta focus on getting through Hollow Knight now

 

I didn’t play much of Link’s Awakening bc I never owned the old school gameboy, but I always assumed that giant egg was a Yoshi egg. I mean, there are Mario characters in this game.

 

Anyone that never played it, owns a 3DS, and doesn't want to wait, Link's Awakening DX is on the Virtual Console. Although at this point if you've never played it I would definitely say to wait because this new version looks awesome.

 

I am at my peak loser/stay at home time in my life so sign me the fuck up!

is Majoras Mask finally not underrated anymore

I love that game so much

 

I always thought the people that love MM and hate on BotW were the same people

 

somewhere in the mid-2000’s MM went from being extremely underrated to extremely rated haha

 

i like all Zelda games other than II because it is v hard
