I really can't settle on whether or not I want the new Pokémon games that are out this week. On one hand, they're the first Pokemon games on switch but I really don't like all the Go-like mechanics they've tossed in...

I love the Pokemon games, I’m very excited for next years games, yet I still think these look really bad. The nostalgia factor is the only reason I’d consider playing them, but at that point I might as well play the GBA remakes which still look awesome.

    so much for them! Prestigious

im pretty much getting lets go pikachu out of a sense of obligation to the franchise. interested in seeing the region in 3d, having pokemon follow me, and making a 1st gen team. other than that im not that excited and it feels like its gonna be a breeze and then ill never touch it again. being a nintendo game itll have good resell value i guess lol

I think it will be a blast and I’ll get it for sure. I just made up my mind. I’ll probably wait a few weeks though to make sure public reaction is good. I love that Its only Gen 1. Definitely wouldn’t get it otherwise, and won’t be getting the core series game next year. Just here for the nostalgia.

i am sure i will love it. nearly every part of the main series games that people are bummed about being absent here is stuff i’ve never cared about. i have never in my life worried about nature or abilities or even checked an EV/IV outside of Go. the meta game just doesn’t appeal to me, i don’t have anyone in my everyday life that plays and there is no real in-game reward for participating in PvP battles. i’m here for the single player and then i’m done.

Does Into The Breach play like Advance Wars? Also did anyone ever play the banner saga? been on my radar for a while

It’s much more than PVP that is missing here, the singeplayer RPG gameplay has been stripped almost out existence. If that appeals to you, that’s fine of course.

outside of not battling wild Pokémon, how so? the reviews rolling in mention post-game trainers being very difficult

Battling and catching wild Pokemon is a huge part of the game though lol plus the combat has been stripped down too in terms of systems etc

not trying to be argumentative for the sake of it or anything, but battling wild Pokémon has always just been a grind. i can probably count on one hand the amount of times a wild Pokémon has presented a real challenge to me. it’s just steamroll, heal, repeat and when it comes to late game catching it’s just False Swipe, throw ball, repeat. i personally don’t mind this and am glad future core games will maintain that gameplay loop but i definitely don’t think we are losing out on anything that compelling in that area

I know that the new Mario Party game is getting a fairly lukewarm reception, but I really enjoy it. It's a lot of fun especially with 4 players going.

Yeah I mean we can agree to disagree, I’m sure the new approach will find some fans, personally I’m just happy this isn’t where the core games are going (apparently)

@Shrek Btw I was referring to tracking down and battling wild Pokemon with the purpose of catching them all being a important part of Pokemon, rather than grinding (though I still believe grinding has its place in a JRPG)
