Of course, I just think the anger/anticipation surrounding Netflix/YouTube on Switch is... odd. If it’s your only option that makes sense but there’s no way that’s the case for the majority of people that never shut the fuck up about this lol

 

Gotcha, yeah this is the first time I've ever mentioned it and I don't follow Nintendo news enough to know that people have been annoying about it

 

This is such a stupid fucking argument and I'm sick of it. There are multiple reasons why people want basic apps on their console and it says a lot about Nintendo and how bizarre their business model is. I want YouTube, Crunchyroll and Netflix on my Switch because I want to watch it on my Switch. That's what matters. That's my choice. You can also say the same about games, I can play Diablo III or whatever on my PS4 or Xbox or PC, but I want to on my Switch. Aside from that, here are some reasons:

If another family member wants to use the TV, I can easily just undock the Switch and keep watching and not have to watch on a tiny screen on my phone. I travel a lot and it is just so much nicer being able to put my Switch in tabletop mode when flying and watch something. If kids want to watch a movie or something, but I don't want to give them my phone, they can sit and watch what I allow with parental controls on the console.

There are a ton of legitimate reasons, but the biggest argument is actually within your original statement: everything else has this basic app, why shouldn't the Switch?

P. S. I'm also not on board with the whole Nintendo online phone app for voice chat excuse "well, you always have your phone on you." Sure, you know what I always have on me if I'm playing my Switch online? My Switch.

 

It's a console that was made to play video games, it's doing exactly what it set out to do

Sure, it will be for convenient for some to have that functionality but people need to stop overreacting as if YouTube was their sole purpose for buying a NS

 

The other reasons are valid in some way (though I question how widespread they are), but this one actually isn’t. For a company like Nintendo that’s a bad starting point, because they can’t compete in a pissing match. They compete through differentiation (quite successfully this time around).

I stated my opinion, which is valid and in no way deterred by "it's a gaming console" because that's a fairly moot point and I never said or implied anything to suggest the app's absence has affected their sales nor would I have determined my purchase of said system based on the app (which I didn't as I currently own a Switch).

It is a fair point. All their systems after the GameCube had the Netflix app, and that includes their handheld lineup, so for them to suddenly be opposed to having Netflix, etc is just strange. Nintendo has a terrible habit of setting up groundwork or expectations and then just changing things on a whim. It happened with the apps, it's happened (more importantly) with Virtual Console and it's just upsetting to see a company who does so many things right just ignoring their community and doing things differently for the sole reason of being different. Nintendo could be the be the best at backwards compatibility and bring back VC which would make them a ton of money, but they don't and give people shitty alternatives like the NES online collection or whatever.

Back to the YouTube thing. Do you have to care? No. Fine, that's cool. Realistically, it's a very small issue and I get that. Do you have to be dicks about it? No because if you don't care, don't respond.

 

But this is the kind of stuff you do in threads. When you hate something you bring it up over and over again and tell people they’re wrong. IE Sonic, and having piranha plant in smash. You can’t have it both ways.

I mean, if you can't tell the difference between a joke like the whole "sonic was never good" thing that has existed for years on the internet and something like this, that's not my issue. Also, I didn't bring this up. You want to change subjects? Cool. Do it. I expressed my thoughts on the matter that clearly people either don't care about or don't agree with so that's that.

I didn't get heated. I'll admit the use of the word "fucking" in that first sentence was overdramatic, but otherwise I just laid out my points. That's all I did. People's reactions to people saying they wanted YouTube was overdramatic as well.

Idk, you seem pretty passionate about it to me which is fine, but then like, idk, buy an iPad? It's not like this was a launch promise that was undelivered on? You want it, it's not there, it may be soon or it may not. The outrage surrounding the ability to watch Pewdiepie or whatever on a console that it wasn't designed for is entirely unjustifiable. Simple as that. Just because other platforms offer something doesn't mean Nintendo is obligated to and I for one never expected it and thus feel no loss over it. It's the definition of a first world problem.

Your reasons for wanting it are fine, the reaction to not having it is p unhealthy

 

Haven't played Hollow Knight yet because I don't purchase shit games.

 

I apologize if my reactions seemed more agressive than they were intended. They were certainly not meant as such and being lumped together with people who "never shut the fuck up" about the subject and replied to with snide remarks for simply saying "I'll be pretty bummed" was uncalled for.

Towerfall is so much fun. only played with one other friend last night but we got through all of the wave based co-op last night. felt like a 2018 take on the greatest NES game of all time Bubble Bobble. cannot fathom getting 6 people together, complete chaos.

 

It's legitimately one of my favorite games. It blows my mind that they added 6 player multiplayer. It seems way too hectic, but I'm excited to try it out. Still bummed no online play, but I get it.
