  1. it was the first video game i ever had (besides Mario World, which came with my SNES) but my parents got me Aladdin that same day (Christmas) so I've been playing it since the SNES came out, whenever that was.

but i played Aladdin allllll the time, and then started getting really good at it, where if i had about 30 minutes to kill, i'd play that and try to beat it before i had to go to school/work/whatever. and as the years have gone on, i still play it probably more than any other game, haha.

then i heard on my friend's old podcast one of their co-hosts talking about how he used to speed run it, so i was like "I NEED TO CHALLENGE HIM!" so we did "The Race to Agrabah" and went against each other... i was WAY ahead up until the first Jafar level at the end. Jafar killed me the first time i fought him, so that put my behind and the other guy ended up winning by just a couple seconds... sigh.

I don't understand how they "make sense" to you just because you have a business degree and studied Japanese business culture. Nintendo has a console that has no way to back up any of your save date unless you buy their online service and even then you can't cloud save all their games. They have an online service that still has no community features such as being able to message players. They created a Mario Tennis game this year that doesn't even allow you to play a game of proper tennis. The list goes on and on.

The thing is I'm not calling out Nintendo for just Super Mario Party or my personal preferences. I'm calling them out for having a repeated history of decisions that are anti-consumer and have been talked about for years by many people in the gaming industry from people at gaming websites to other developers. Hell, they even charged people for a hard mode for Breath Of The Wild.

Sony is another Japanese gaming company and it doesn't take someone with a business degree to see that they're decisions are more practical than Nintendo's all around (and I'm speaking as a generalization of their history, I know they've done a few questionable things, what company hasn't?)

Ain't that the truth. But I feel like people in here are just assuming I'm the only one who is saying this when I'm not.

There’s definitely some things I don’t like about how they’ve handled the switch but also at the end of the day there are more positives than negatives for me so I’m content. Of course there can and should be improvements but overall I’m still pretty satisfied.

    Still A Threat Prestigious

I don’t really feel like getting into arguing about short term micro decisions right now (and neither is Nintendo as a Japanese company, because you were wondering why I mentioned that). Many of these decisions, by the way, are either not as clear cut or not nearly as big a deal as many people, including the people you listed (a lot of which have 0% business undertstanding), like to pretend. We have literally already spent more time thinking about this Mario Party thing than 90% of its target group ever will. As far as the business degree goes, that was in reference to known business strategies Nintendo follows (for example when they do things very differently than market standards, for better or worse, but historically generally for the better - which what most Japanese companies really care about) that most people don’t recognize and find weird. Something can make sense even if you don’t agree with it (keep in mind however that chances are very high that Nintendo has infinitely deeper insights into their business and what is right for it at any given time than any outsider does). Almost everything they do makes “sense” in that way, if you know what to look for (for example because if you were trained in what to look for).

Sony, at least its entertainment branch, hasn’t been very Japanese in a while by the way.

EDIT: Sorry for all the edits, my phone is driving me crazy.

Also, call me a capitalist pig if you want, but in general I’m a little tired of constant “anti-consumer” complaints in a industry that has been being crippled by unrealistic consumer expectations and demands for years now. A lot of decisions Nintendo makes that people call “anti-consumer” is just them refusing to participate in the race to the bottom that short sighted (Western) firms (in Sony’s and Microsoft’s case conglomerates that at the end of the day couldn’t care less about what it does to video games in the long run) more readily participate in.

Not being able to back up your data AT ALL on the Switch (even Nintendo can't recover your data) is very anti-consumer. It's something phones, tablets, handhelds, consoles, laptops, computers and more allow you to do. Nintendo forcing people to buy their online because of "majority" cloud saves is ridiculous.

I agree that anti-consumer gets thrown around too much, but in some cases, like this one, it's accurate.

Does anyone hope both Luigi's Mansion and Dark Moon will come to Switch? I think that would be awesome

I see so much about this game but know literally nothing about it. From first glance it looks like something I'd totally be in to.

Yeah I doubt they'd remove that since it's one of the big sells for the game.

It's an isometric turn-based RPG game reminiscent of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Fallout 1/2, Wasteland, Shadowrun, etc. Except it can be played (and the game actually encourages you) in multiplayer which is pretty much Neverwinter Nights.

Think of it like a digital Dungeons and Dragons game where you form a party and go to towns (LITERALLY) and do quests and build your character, gain reputation and go on adventures. A party can be just you where you control all the characters, or in multiplayer you control at least 1 character. But Divinity's strength shines on the freedom of what you can do in the game. Depending on the character you pick - if you're a skeleton most NPCs hate you but you get bonuses in other areas.

Seriously, the freedom in this game is astounding. The quests are fun, and sometimes borders on silly. Can't remember the number of times my SO and I had said, "wait you can do that?" Also I get to share one of my favorite genres with my SO. The combat is really good and creative too.

This sounds incredibly overwhelming but also incredibly rad at the same time. I played Neverwinter for like half a day visiting a friend years ago. I’m all in on this.

I’m convinced I’ll try pretty much almost anything if it come to Switch. The biggest barrier for entry is now the idea of being locked onto my couch.
