It's very hard to say why it is taking this long. Regardless, it clearly hasn't kept people from buying a Switch.

It's not hard to say. It's clearly Nintendo. They've always been...sticklers for doing things their way and it's just probably caused some extra time or friction. I mean, you can't even use the built in video share feature on the Switch for games that aren't approved or whatever by Nintendo.

But you're right, it's not going to keep me and others from playing the Switch.

This is just my opinion but I don’t see the need for streaming services on the switch. In handheld mode, which is the draw because of portability, the screen and battery life isn’t the greatest. I’m sure people would just end up complaining that after watching one movie the battery is nearly dead. Or that they can’t see that well

Everyone has a phone. I’d rather watch Netflix or YouTube on my iPhone than on my switch if I was out somewhere. And in the house I already have a smart tv, a fire stick, a Xbox one, a ps4, an iPad, etc. I’m sure most people have a few of these things as well that they can stream with.

Then again if the switch is your only console I could understand the desire for these services. I have no problem just using the switch for playing games. But I’ve always been a little old fashioned in liking devices that do one thing really well, such as having a kindle for reading ebooks.

That's the thing though. It's all about preference. I much rather watch something on my Switch than my phone because the screen is much larger, I can watch it with other people and I can also plug it into a dock and watch it on the TV. The convenience factor is a big plus.

It's also like you point out, a major inconvenience if that's your only console, which for some people it is. Not everyone has a smart TV and just being able to have Netflix, YouTube, Crunchyroll, etc makes sense because it's a convenience everything has from consoles to phones, from smart refrigerators to tablets. It's just a bad move from a business standpoint.

I also like how you said you like devices that do one thing really well, but you prefer to watch Netflix, etc on your smartphone. Not bashing. Just thought that was amusing for some reason.

I played a bit of the Splatoon expansion. Enjoying it so far. The opponents also upgraded their arsenal.

I rarely watch Netflix on my phone. Just if I was out I’d rather do it there. Especially in direct sunlight because the glare on the switch is pretty bad. Not hating on the switch though. It’s probably my favorite device I have and definitely my favorite console.

Octo expansion is pretty great so far. Also love the multi-pen splatling. That’s not actually out yet is it?

Has there been any talk about online capabilities for Mario Party?

I haven't seen anything. It would be amazing, but I'd be we quite floored if they announced online for it.

I hope so! It the type of game that really needs a group of people to be fun. And let’s be real I can’t get my friends together that often to play so online would be great. Honestly could be the deciding factor.

I feel like part of the magic of Mario Party is screaming at the person next to you though

It is, but screaming at them over a mic online is almost as good. Almost.

Oh, true - I was thinking random opponents and for some reason forgot this would be an option haha

Well who knows with Nintendo. I mean, Fortnite apparently will have the option to just plug in microphones and speak to each other, but other games have the app you have to download? Has anyone used that yet?

I'm ASSUMING the online service they are starting will eliminate any need of the app. If not... yikes

The E3 sale is live. Some decent savings on some of the bigger titles.

    Source?

It sounds insane now but I actually just bought it for the playable octoling. I kept forgetting there was a new single player experience and I’m actually happy they went with that route, as opposed to locking out some players who decide not to get the expansion by adding exclusive online capabilities that aren’t cosmetic.

Mario Party online would really only work with private matchmaking. good luck getting 3 randos to stick around for 25 turns without ragequitting or dropping connection.

that is a good fix. it's definitely a game that would benefit greatly from a "reputation" system that pairs those with a low disconnect rate together.

I'm the type who doesn't even like to play with randos lol. Especially a game like that, fair point though.

yeah it would still be (presumably) pretty easy to make an online feature where you enter a room code you can distribute through text/Facebook/discord to play online with people you know etc. i hope they do that. me and my long island buddies will play Mario Party online through Dolphin Emulator now and then and it's a blast, although it's a pain in the ass to get the settings right to be lag-free the first time.
