Also adding troops around your character in Fire Emblem is such a good idea and makes the battles look way more epic

 

the whole idea of fire emblem units being accompanied by a bunch of faceless soldiers is exactly what ive always pictured fire emblem to be like.

 

Smash was pretty cool. I agree some of the character moveset footage could have been moved to Treehouse, but they let us know well in advance that this Direct would be Smash centered, so no complaints here. Plus, Ridley footage got me SO happy. The first 15-20 minutes really stole it for me. Fire Emblem had me nearly tearing up, Dark Souls is still one of my most anticipated games, Let's Go looks like such a great time to me, Hollow Knight and Fortnite getting a same-day release is huge, and damn, if Super Mario Party doesn't look SO goddamn fun. Seeing Captain Toad and Monster Hunter were really nice reminders, too. What a fucking year we have ahead of us.

 

Prime 4 being a ways off makes sense considering all they showed us last time was the logo.

Yoshi will probably get it's own direct or at least half of one.

Star Fox is a mystery because maybe it was just a bad leak? Or maybe it just isn't far enough in development and someone got wind of it way too early.

Anything goes with Atlus haha.

 

I legitimately wasn't excited for this game and then I saw that and was like "Oh fuck, oh fuck, don't do this to me. I sunk WAY too many hours into Awakening. Don't suck me in again."

 

also wow was there really nothing shown for 3ds? are they actually phasing it out now? cool to consolidate all the new releases to switch but ill always love my 3ds.

also surprised there was no word on the online service, although they might be talking about it on treehouse? idk, im not watching.

 

I still hope Spyro comes to the Switch

 

I don't know what else they'd say about the online considering they've outlined like 95% of it. Also they announced this was a Switch/Smash focused direct. I'm sure 3DS will get something soon.

 

With all of the Smash hype, I didnt even give myself enough time to be excited for Fire Emblem which is crazy because I've been been playing those games since I was 8 and HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS THE FIRE EMBLEM I'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF!!!

If the story is as serious as the trailer makes it seem and they tone down the 3DS anime weeabu BS, I'm in heaven.

 

How did Ridley first gain traction for smash? It seems like such an out-of-left-field character to me but I know people have been asking for it for ages

 

I have never played a Fire Emblem game.

 

I've only played a tiny bit of Awakening on a friend's copy. This looks pretty damn cool though, so I'm sure I'll jump on the hype train when it gets closer.

im not huge on smash by any means, so to the huge smash fans, please just skip of my negative comment... but as a huge Zelda fan i kinda of really wish:

1. they were making Zeldas smash character in the art style of BOTW
2. i wish they would get rid of Ganondorf and Toon link and add like some of the champions from BOTW.

 

Get yourself a GBA emulator and a ROM of the original Fire Emblem, stat!

Also, Radiant Dawn is incredible.

Fortnite accounts that have been used on the PS4 are blocked on Switch (and vice versa)

this is weird... especially if you can use the same account on PS4 and Xbox or on Xbox and Switch, just not on PS4 and Switch.

Still so weird to me that Fire Emblem has become this huge. I remember there were interviews that said Awakening was going to be the last one in the franchise and then that game sold a lot and FE is alive again and more popular than ever.

 

Playstation doesn't play nice.

 

I like some anime. It's not the anime influence, because that has always been a part of Fire Emblem, but the type of anime that they're channeling.

Support Conversations and Romance: Yes! It adds to character depth. Creates attachment to the cast. Part of what makes Fire Emblem interesting.

Waifu/Husbando Sim Fanboy Pandering: Dilutes both character interactions and the overall story, especially when they have to create dumb plot points in order to have children playable (*cough* Fates *cough*).

Don't even get me started on the character designs of Tharja and Camilla, and the cheesecake costumes in Fire Emblem Heroes. Or my disappointment in the Fire Emblem Warriors roster and the stupid armor break that is just another excuse to strip characters down. I always liked Fire Emblem because the stories were fairly mature with compelling characters and the 3DS games, while I like them a lot and am happy that they exist, definitely were not made for long-time fans.

Sorry for the rant. I'm.... passionate about this haha.

 

This is exactly why I'm glad that they decided to aim the franchise at a broader audience even if some of the changes hurt haha.

The first GBA Fire Emblem is still my favourite game of all time.
