my favorite mario platformer of all time, hands down. that game just had such life to it. i still remember leaving money on the counter the night before release day so my dad could pick it up for me on his way home from work. i was 12 at the time haha.

It is the only console Mario I have not played. That is the primary reason why; if the Switch has a Virtual Console with the older Game Boy Mario games, I would want to play them too.

Gamecube VC is one of the most exciting aspects of the Switch for me. I could go on and on about how basically all my favorite video games from the age of 11 to 15 were on GCN.

The GCN had the best Mario sports game as well. Soccer, Tennis, Golf, Baseball ... those games were all choice.

this. I cannot wait to revisit Star Fox Adventures. I absolutely loved that game, not sure how it holds up though.

Is Star Fox Adventures actually gonna be on the VC? 'Cause that game rules. The amazing graphics on Fox's tail alone make it a GOAT contender.

GameCube VC would be the best because all these local game shops try to sell all the good physical GameCube games for like $40+ and I'm like yooo booo.

Star Fox Adventures definitely still holds up. So excited about the idea to play that on the go!

I think I read that the three initial games were going to be Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Mario Sunshine (yeeeeeaahhhh!!), and Luigi's Mansion. Not sure if that was confirmed or not.

Sunshine, Star Fox , Double Dash, Pikmin, Melee, Timesplitters 2, Wind Waker and Mario Golf were my poison.

No confirmation on the Switch having GB games (that I know of) but the 3DS VC has Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

I have considered getting a 3DS, but I figure since the Switch is part handheld they will have a deeper handheld virtual console. I can sort of understand why the Wii U doesn't, mainly because a Game Boy game on a 55 inch TV would look so ugly.

I remember when I bought my 3DS XL and literally like a week later they announced the New 3DS. I was so bitter because later on they announced Earthbound for New 3DS VC.

Yeah hopefully it covers the whole of Nintendo's library. Although Nintendo has never been about releasing as many ROMs as they're capable of (Jim Sterling did a great episode of the Jimquisition on that this week, actually). They prefer a slow drip of a select few titles on each console instead. Maybe we'll get some clarification on the VC tonight.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the Switch having a bigger handheld selection than the 3DS, though. Traditionally they've kept the handheld games on the handheld VC while the console VC got console games. Although, the Wii U did have GBA games (because they wouldn't put them on 3DS, for whatever reason they gave), just no GB or GBC games. So who even knows anymore.

That was almost entirely my motivation for upgrading to a new one with that Black Friday deal. That and it's much easier to hold than the 2DS. That thing would make my hands cramp up after too long.

I assume the 3DS will be the last pure handheld if the Switch is successful, so I am hoping you will see everything on there.

And the slow drip is well known and quite frustrating. Majora's Mask only came to the Wii U recently, and you still can't play Star Fox 64, one of their games considered the best of all time

Here's that Jimquisition episode, if anyone's interested. This policy really does make literally zero sense for them to continue pursuing, considering it costs nothing to just upload the files and a large segment of their fanbase would rather pay to play legitimately than illegally download ROMs.

They did a 3D remake of Star Fox for the 3DS, but it's almost impossible to find preowned so the only option is to pay $40 for it on the eShop. I'm assuming a VC release of Star Fox would cost quite a bit less, ha.

Ah ok. Hot tea isn't a very popular morning beverage in my neck of the woods, so I didn't even consider that.
