You know what? I just realized I have a free download code for that (hopefully there was no expiration date) and never redeemed it because my Wii U broke. If I can find the code, I will try to gift it to someone in this thread.

Reddit switch, yup. and some random gaming websites that I never realized existed until now. Mostly show up on my facebook feed.

 

Hope those $250 rumors are true. If so, just give me some pre-order details, because I am so all in

 

ebgames canada aint accepting pre-orders yet :( im worried after the nes classic, the switch will be impossible to buy.

 

With Nintendo's track record, you're probably right, it will be impossible. I still can't believe I had to wait weeks late for my Wii preorder at FYE- don't accept payment and promise shipments if you can't get them on time, for God sakes.

having said that, i havent bought a nintendo system since the n64 (only heard of horror stories of buying day 1) sooooo wish me luck

 

I'm pretty much limited to best buy. I have a $300 gift card so that's my switch money. Not sure if my best bet is to preorder online, in store, or hope for the best day of.

 

at least Persona and Mass Effect also coming this spring, so I won't be want for things to play when inevitably dealing with Nintendo's supply nonsense

 

I very easily got a 3DS the day it came out but that was a long time ago and hype seems bigger for the Switch. Really hoping I can get it opening day.

 

I'll only worry if Zelda's a launch title and if that happens I'll get like three preorders or something.

 

I don't think I ever got a console on launch day but shortly after I was able to walk in the store and get what I wanted. I'm worried about the switch though

 

With this it could go either way. On the one hand, this isn't a so-called "Collector's Item" in the same way that the NES Classic is. This is a huge, huge inflection point for Nintendo as a company and they need this thing to sell well. So having plenty of supply on Day 1 could be huge, especially if the price is low ($250-$300). Could see them vanish from shelves even with a large supply through a combination of pre-launch hype and cost-effectiveness (plus having a new 3D Mario on launch day, plus potentially also the new Zelda, won't hurt demand at all either). Not to mention that ensuring everyone who wants one gets one is the best way to also drive software sales and sustain excitement through positive word-of-mouth from satisfied customers.

On the other hand, Nintendo has shown itself to be a firm believer in the idea of limiting stock to artificially drive up demand and feed potential paying customers to the scalpers. Nintendo's business practices over the last few years have been a scalper's wet dream, after all, and they clearly couldn't care less how many of their fans they burn in the process. I just have to think that at some point enough will be enough and people will be fed up with the scarcity of their products enough to either wait or just not buy them at all. I know for me, personally, after Fire Emblem Fates and the NES Classic, if I can't preorder this thing and get one on Day One I don't exactly know when I'll get one. I'm so stupidly excited for it, like tons of other people, but if Nintendo doesn't want my money I'll be fine not giving it to them for a while. I can play Zelda on my Wii U and wait to play Mario. I'll live.

So yeah, best advice would be to hover over the refresh button on GameStop or whoever's website during the presentation and hope for the best. Shitty that it has to be that way but when you're competing against bots for a potentially limited supply it's all you can do.

 

hope Walmart does a pre order similar to what they did with the PS4. They were one of the last retailers to offer one, stopped by one morning and paid the 10% or whatever, paid the rest the morning I picked it up. Was seriously the smoothest launch of anything I've experienced

 

I literally didn't pre-order my launch PS4 for a few days after the opening of them. Walked right in, put my money down no questions asked, picked up my console on day one.

If the Switch launch doesn't go the exact same way, Nintendo has no excuse. None.

 

I'm still trying to get a NES classic but all the local places only get one or two and it's infuriating.

 

Presentation is at 12PM here. Guess I know what I'll be doing in my lunchbreak.

 

Really hoping that's the base price point as well. Would be pretty awesome.

 

honestly at this point i think it'll be a surprise if $250 isn't the price.
