you're in a cult, call your dad

Told myself the Switch was gonna be my "treat yo self" purchase after tax return season (because the rest of that cash has to go towards being a responsible adult wtfever that means) and this price leak makes me feel way better about that. I lovelovelove my Wii U and it's a shame it didn't take off, and the 3DS goes without need of any additional praise, so I think the Switch will be right up my alley.

    Couple of cool tidbits.

    - Nintendo is teaming up with SCRAP to host official Zelda themed "escape rooms" in select major cities. Official site here. I will definitely be trying to get a spot in the NYC edition.

    - Super Mario Run launches December 15th, and is leaving the micro-transaction model behind in favor of a one time $9.99 in-app purchase to unlock the full game. All three game modes will be available to try for free.

I'm sure they intended this but this being in-app is sort of bad news for family accounts. This means that only the account who paid for the in-app will have access to the full game, and the rest will have the free version.

    Yes.

Correct (or at least one of the worst Mario games) but that is soooo wrong.

    Mario Kart 8 Switch rumors
    - will contain all of the previous Wii U content (tracks, characters) plus all of the Wii U DLC
    - will feature tons of exclusive content
    - this includes brand new tracks, new playable characters, and a new-and-improved battle mode.

Not sure if I'll be repurchasing this, may just wait for 9.

May need to make a trip down to LA for this. Mario Run is a day one purchase. I want to know more about the Kingdom Builder.

I don't have the DLC so I'll probably skip that and buy MKSwitch instead.

Same with Smaah. It's gonna be a really expensive release day for me.

This is the controller they wouldn't let me buy the other day. They let me this time. Apparently it's not supposed to be displayed until Black Friday

Maybe not the place to bring it up, but anyone into the Angry Video Game Nerd? I'm not really a gamer, but I love learning about games from that guy

I'm so sick of Nintendo's artificial scarcity. They just keep doing it over and over again. It just doesn't make sense from a business perspective; in fact, it's idiotic. They're driving customers into the arms of the scalpers and literally encouraging a secondhand market by doing this. Instead of making two sales for themselves, they make one and lose one every time someone gives in so their loved one can have an NES Classic in time for Christmas. It's honestly getting disgusting. Amiibos, Majora's Mask News 3DS XL, Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition, the list goes on and on. I don't understand why they keep doing it.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Wii U sales terrified them, with how much stock they had on the shelves, and they're worried about it happening again with anything, so they make smaller quantities and ship them out periodically instead.

Nintendo is a conservative company. Always was. This tatic has never not worked for them, but the opposite has burnt them occasionaly. That's all it is I think.

Well, there's something to be said about being upfront regarding the artificial scarcity, holding an extensive preorder period with a defined cutoff date, and then making enough to fill all of those preorders and have a good amount leftover. That way, anyone who really wants one, gets one. Instead they didn't even allow preorders for the NES Classic in North America. Any way you slice it, the way they handle these situations is not ok.

Oh, I never said they don't move units. I said that it's idiotic of them to not want to move more units. They're losing sales not only to people who cave and buy from a scalper but also from people who simply decide they don't need to deal with Nintendo's bullshit. I, for example, haven't purchased a single amiibo, ever, because all of the ones I would want are too rare and I just find myself not willing to keep track of when they do get restocked, after all this time. There's literally no acceptable explanation for why they continue to encourage a scalping market for their own products so enthusiastically.

Any ideas on whether the same issue will happen with Switch release? Don't really like the idea of not having one on release date

Less likely, unless it blows up like the Wii, they will never risk making enough units for that scenario

Please be kind. Like actually kind though.

While the rumored price for the Switch is great and affordable it makes me worry about the power the machine will have. Low power machines are not good for 3rd party support.

The following comes from Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang...

    - architecture of the Tegra chip powering the Switch is similar to what’s inside of PS4/Xbox One and even PCs
    - this should enable developers to build games that can quickly shift from one platform to another
    - this includes games that originate on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 to Switch
    - all of these architectures are common in the sense that they all use modern GPUs
    - they all use programmable shading, and they all have basically similar features
    - processors will vary in design and capabilities, but they still all use a common architectural language
    - game developers can target a much larger installed base with one common code base

I think it has been a long time since the GCN and standard 3rd party support and people need to get over it. It's not gonna happen. If this thing catches on as a handheld in Japan, you'll get the Japanese developers that never left Nintendo's handhelds, but not much more. If it blows up like the Wii in the West, you'll get games tailored to it by developers, but they probably won't do all that well. That's most likely it. Indie games are a different story, I can see it getting a lot of them.
