I like the cutscenes I guess

Pokemon games have always been about the single player experience for me, so I guess that's why I lean towards loving Sun/Moon. I hated having to memorize what moves are weak/strong vs other types, especially since I wasn't familiar with some of the newer types, so having that info in front of my face once that Pokemon was in the dex was great. Moving the HMs to the new PokeRide thing was fantastic as well.

Just out of curiosity though, what changes seemed to neglect competitive players?

@Snewt Well the biggest things is that they made EV training easier and more accessible in XY through Super Training, only to take it away again.

Showing which moves are effective against which type is fine, that's quality of life stuff that makes sense.

I do not like PokeRide, it's another oversimplification imo because it removes on variable that made balancing your team more important.

i liked super training a lot but the pokepelago method is easier, though it lacks engagement

Easier is maybe the wrong word (though I thought it was easy) but is made it feel more real if that makes sense, like they finally embraced it

During Gen 1 I was big on link cable battles. Battling scares the shit out of me now

Idk 100% what EVs/IVs are, even. I know they pertain to the RNG components of a Pokemons max stat potential but all I see are numbers that make me think of EeVee and IVsaur.

IVs are a little obscure but you can figure it out

It is a pretty great system, it makes competitive combat incredibly deep

Oh, I bet. I'm really surprised I haven't seen a similar system in many other RPGs, beyond static boosts in gear or skill trees etc. Fire Emblem is the closest cousin of that I can think of.

I get why IVs exist but it's such a hassle when breeding - my frustration with competitive Pokemon. It takes too much time and most, if not all, competitive players just use hacked Ditto anyways.

EVs are awesome. That coupled with natures add a really good level of depth to each 'mon.

I disliked X/Y main story but mega evolutions are dope. It catered to both casual and competitive fans, and for a while I honestly thought moving forward it was going to be a staple. I've not been battling since OR/AS so I'm not that familiar with Z moves

Su/Mo was a nice change of pace but looking back it did feel a bit lacking.

I wonder if Ultra SuMo will add any new mega evolutions. Maybe my username will finally be official! :scream:

I wish the whole controller had splatters on it.

I really don't like the split color thing Nintendo's been into. Would be totally into that controller if both sides were the same.

ARMS reviews out now. Metacritic's hovering around 80, general consensus seems to be that it's fun with concerns about longevity and the amount of content in the launch package.

Same as Splatoon and that worked out well

Sounds about right. Similar to initial Splatoon reception. Luckily, I think maps and such are going to be much easier to develop for ARMS because much of their complexity lies in the scenery out of bounds. The actual field of play itself is pretty basic with a few environmental props.

Hah, yeah, I almost wrote that it's pretty identical to early Splatoon complaints (and like that game, I'm sure Nintendo will continue to put out a good amount of free content to keep players interested).

My favorite parts of the Testpunch were the 8 AM sessions. I used that hour to loosen up before morning workout, stretching while I was in the lobby and such. Kept up a sweat and a heartrate. I see myself working that in permanently and that alone is worth the price of admission, pretty excited.

Unlocking additional arms/gloves kind of sounds like a nightmare, though.

Yep, this is my major concern right now. There are A LOT of arms to unlock and there's no way to guarantee you'll even get arms for the characters you want to use (and you can get doubles).
